Pioneering hydrogen tech since 1979 💡 Did you know that we’ve been working with hydrogen as a potential drive system for decades? These are some of our key milestones throughout history: 1979: A BMW 520 was converted into the first BMW test car to use liquid hydrogen as fuel. 2000: The first ever small series hydrogen car embarked on a "CleanEnergy World Tour" - an early hydrogen mobility showcase. 2014: The BMW 535iA Hydrogen was built to demonstrate zero local emissions, sporty dynamism, driving comfort, and long-distance suitability. 2023: A pilot fleet of the BMW iX5 Hydrogen took to cities around the world for testing and demonstration purposes.
