Moments of Inspiration - The Runner: I am frequently amazed and inspired by things that I see, hear, and read from other humans. There is a lot of good in the world when you look for it, and there are these super cool moments when another human does something or says something so great that it elevates you to another level, inspiring you to do more, be more. These “moments of Inspiration” can be significant and happen on a big stage, but most are small, happening within our daily activities and passing us by if we aren’t looking for them. I have become quite interested in these moments and find myself not only looking for them but also wanting to know the back stories of the human that created the moment (what’s their background, how do they think, what drives them, what makes them different). The first time I became aware of these moments and the impact they had on me was on a Saturday afternoon while cleaning up the kitchen and casually watching a world championship track and field event on the TV. During a medium distance running race (I don’t recall the distance) I saw an athlete trip and fall to the ground. You could tell, for a moment, that all was lost and a lifetime of training was ruined. But then this magical thing happened… she got back up and started to run! She was quite far behind the pack but began picking up speed. Slowly but surely she eventually reached the pack. Then with great intensity she started to pass one runner after the other. All thoughts of defeat had been vanquished and her sights had clearly been refocused on something other than the fall. Then it hit me, she was going to win that damn race! She continued to pass runners, and then within just a few meters from the finish line she passed the lead runner and in fact won that race. WOW! And there I was, standing in my kitchen by myself, in tears of joy, jumping up and down while cheering her on! That was a moment that will live with me forever and reminds me that even when you trip, you can still get up and win the race! After that day I became obsessed with finding these moments and learning about their creators. They are all around us and I plan to share more of these as I see them. I hope you do as well!

This particular story resonates because just as you said it happens in both big moments when everyone is watching and everyday moments that only a few see.  We fall down but we get up - in sports, work, our relationships, our faith but ultimately it’s our focus and drive to get up and keep moving forward.  Please keep sharing Bob!

Looking forward to hearing more of these moments during our post yoga chats!

I see these moments with patients who are dealing with difficult diagnoses and yet are so kind and wonderful. Grace !

Thanks for sharing, Bob. Made me smile - I gave a preso once and it was based Chumbawamba's I Get Knocked Down... but I get up again. #startupfounder :).

Appreciate your sharing this perspective. I needed to hear this today.

Getting back up after being knocked-down is where growth happens. Always inspiring, Bob.
