I wish to extend a formal invitation to foster a deeper collaborative spirit, with a particular focus on oncology. 🌍 Now is the moment for Europe to take the lead in the battle against cancer. Let's unite our efforts and determination to save lives, focusing equally on providing high-quality and multifunctional oncology patient care. 🇱🇻 Latvia proudly lends its support to the European Cancer Charter "Time to accelerate - together against cancer" manifesto for Europe, developed by the European Cancer Organization. We and Roche / Roche Africa are partnering on a #UNGA #UNGA78 roundtable discussion this Friday in New York to raise awareness on the current burden of breast cancer in #Africa. This #womenshealth dialogue will help understand opportunities and barriers to improving outcomes and continue to catalyze action towards combating the breast cancer burden across the continent. Progress and the challenges that have been faced by member states since the last High-Level Meeting (HLM) on #UHC will be assessed. Contributions from other stakeholders will also be included, with an intention for governments, the private sector, multilateral organizations, NGOs, donors, advocacy groups and more to learn from each other and explore new trends and opportunities for partnerships to enable the inclusion of #breastcancer in UHC. I recently read a thought-provoking article on Nature that shed light on a concerning issue: less than 4% of all #cancerresearch published in the United States and the United Kingdom referees to or includes data from LMICs (https://lnkd.in/e7VGSTMF). This statistic is deeply troubling, especially considering that over 70% of #cancer deaths occur in LMICs. 😨 City Cancer Challenge (C/Can) has focused on bringing tangible improvements to #cities by working closely with local people. We are an organisation learning and evolving, grounded in the commitment of local people and on the importance of innovation and research. 🔎 We have some exciting news coming up soon around our ambition to strengthen and embed #implementationscience across C/Can's work to identify best practices and innovative solutions to strengthen access to cancer care in resource-constrained settings. 🌏 I will be sharing the exciting news about C/Can's new #researchinitative at the Cancer Discovery Virtual Symposium organised by the American Association for Cancer Research on 26 September.
