🎉 Day 3 of our Texas Impact Enterprise Awards honoree announcements! 🎉 The celebration continues as we highlight another group of exceptional Commendees. These organizations have been recognized for their remarkable impact, scalability, and innovation. Please join us in applauding today’s honorees! Their dedication and hard work are driving positive change and making a significant difference in our communities. Stay tuned as we reveal more inspiring organizations in the days ahead. #TexasImpactAwards #CommunityImpact #Changemakers VolunteerNow (USA): VolunteerNow’s goods recovery storefront, Discount Depot, takes the excesses of consumerism and creates a more generative economy for individuals and nonprofits who most need access to goods at deeply reduced rates. Empowered by 18 retail partners and our shared value of environmental and socially responsible re-investment, we bring a place-based vision to the potential of the goods economy for low to moderate-income communities. Environmental Defense Fund: Environmental Defense Fund’s Texas Water Program partners with rural communities, landowners, and lawmakers to ensure sustainable use of groundwater resources and equitable water decision-making in Texas. To do so, we link policy with effective science, build innovative private-sector partnerships, and elevate the voices of underserved, rural communities who depend on groundwater for their way of life. Green Careers Texas: Green Careers Texas is providing high-quality, hands-on solar PV installation training accessible in lower-income neighborhoods, providing a pathway to living-wage work in the growing green sector of solar. 🌳 Exciting times at Woodland Trust! 🌳 It’s a beautiful sight isn’t it? All those trees mixed in with those homes, providing homes for wildlife, shade in the summer, cleaning the air and so much more. It’s a shame that not every community has equitable access to those benefits though. I’ve recently had the pleasure of sharing our Tree Equity work and plans with some fantastic corporate partners. It's always a joy to demonstrate our Tree Equity Score UK tool and discuss our ambitious plans for tree equity across the nation, and I’m always open to sharing it more! Our tool is designed to highlight areas in need of green spaces and ensure that everyone benefits from the beauty and benefits of trees - it’s the perfect merger of environmental and social responsibilities; We believe in the power of collaboration to make a lasting impact on our environment and communities. If you’re passionate about sustainability and social equity, we’d love to hear from you. Let's work together to create a greener, more equitable future. 🌍 📩 Contact us to discuss how we can partner and make a difference together. THE ROOT OF THE ISSUE Strength in numbers. During a dinner conversation, friends Butch Whitfield, a realtor at Harry Norman Realtors; Liz Lapidus, founder of Liz Lapidus Strategic Communications; and Johanna Ellis-Reisinger, former owner of Atlanta Classic Cars began discussing their favorite nonprofits and how to enhance their impact. “Our goal was to develop a shared vision to guide the region’s conservation efforts,” says Whitfield. The result was Root Local that began with polling 250 environmental groups to test their interest. “We got responses from all the six sectors we identified: food systems, air and water quality management, canopy and land management, green buildings and practices, sustainable fashion and products, and travel and transportation,” says Whitfield. Using those replies, they developed a Network Map, a Collective Impact Plan and The Pollinator Network where online community members and organizations can come together to share ideas and learn how to become better stewards of the environment. “Interested citizens can register online and choose the sector that interests them most, whether its green buildings or sustainable fashion,” Whitfield says. Root Local acts as a conduit for them to support one another’s events through cross promotion and participation, and networking to find ways to work together. “Another Root Local goal is to create a template to share with other cities who want to increase their environmental impact by working together,” says Whitfield. 📝Mickey Goodman @rootlocal404 ROOT LOCAL rootlocal.org #TheRootOfTheIssue #CommunityImpact #CollectiveAction #EnvironmentalStewardship #ConservationEfforts #RootLocal #SustainableLiving #EnvironmentalAwareness

🎉 Happy Birthday, Roots Down 🎉 Six years ago today, I received a letter from the IRS with my EIN number, and Roots Down was officially in business. I didn’t know exactly what the journey would look like, but I knew what I wanted to achieve. Looking back, I’m in awe of the incredible path we’ve taken. Roots Down has been a source of inspiration and transformation for sure. Our work has made libraries in DeKalb cleaner and greener spaces for the community and your roadways more colorful with wildflowers and so much more... The impact extends beyond Roots Down—people like Miranda Rupkey and Sonia Tyler, who have worked with us, are now making a significant difference in DeKalb County, dedicating their efforts to improving the world around us. Also, to amazing partners Kim Bucciero and Tres Crow for aiding in the success and giving your blood sweat and tears over the years, A warm thank you. Through our program, countless GreenHivers and interns have learned about local solutions to climate change, sharing their wisdom and helping me grow along the way. Reflecting on all we’ve accomplished over the past six years truly makes my head spin. Like, Did you know that we now have a thriving non profit?? We do its the Fruitful Community Foundation, please check them out. With all the environmental challenges we face, staying focused can be tough—sometimes I feel like a golden retriever in a yard full of tennis balls! Someone pointed out, I’ve been beating the same drum for a long time, and that’s certainly true and I will continue to do so! Our mission Roots Down is simple: to connect our communities more deeply with nature and to become a driving force for regenerative practices. This journey is far from over, and I’m thrilled about what the next six years will bring. We have a lot of work ahead, but the progress we’ve made gives me immense hope. Thank you, Roots Down, for an incredible six years. Let’s keep making a difference together. #HappyBirthdayRootsDown #UrbanRegeneration #ClimateAction #CommunityDriven #RegenerativePractices #GreenCommunities #RootsDownJourney #EnvironmentalImpact #SustainableFuture #GreenLeadership
