Whether it's ChatPGT, Bard or another service, depending on AI to write legally binding service contracts is a BAD idea. 🙅 Here are a few of the risks involved: 1. Accuracy - Contracts depend on precision and accuracy. Significant research and understanding of the law is needed to form the necessary components of a contract. 2. Validity - No matter how specific your prompt is, ChatGPT and other AI tools will generate a contract based on a collection of similar legal documents it comes across from past public web data - which may not be compliant with the applicable laws. 3. Privacy - As with most platforms, your personal information is collected by ChatGPT and any data that you include in your prompt is subject to a potential data breach and is not guaranteed confidentiality. It may be tempting to take a shortcut when it comes to legal contracts to support your service profession, but the risks outweigh the benefits. Let us help you, instead.

Did you know? 🤔 62% of arbitration professionals believe AI saves time ⏰ According to the 2023 AI in International Arbitration survey conducted by Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP, 62% of the respondents identified time-saving as the primary benefit of leveraging AI tools. Despite this, the same survey reveals that 78% of respondents have not yet used ChatGPT in a professional setting 🙅♂️ The main barrier? Concerns about cybersecurity & inaccuracies, say 88% of arbitration professionals 🚨 Good news though: there are ways to address those concerns. We have a serious disconnect here. This article states, "above all, protecting client data should be the foundation of a firm's AI policy, according to Six. Firms working with external AI vendors should also ensure that those providers follow the same data protection standards." Yet another articles shows that Bing and MS Copilot are the 2 most frequently used generative AI platforms. (Where Lawyers Stand On Generative AI Tools, Law360, April 23, 2024). Hello? Who here recalls the ethical requirement regarding competence? You know, the one where we are supposed to have a reasonable level of technological competence? Or what about the whole confidentiality-thingy? And people complain about the cost of E&O insurance, right? Establish and enforce informed policies around the use of technology in your practice that encompasses all tech, including generative AI, even if you're not contemplating its use at this time.

Last week was very much about technology and the impact of AI for Mincoffs Solicitors Firstly, thank you to Netlaw Media Ltd for putting on a fantastic legal tech forum in London last Tuesday. It was great to spend the day with Chris Kewin our Head of IT at @Mincoffs discussing and expanding on our AI knowledge. There were great speakers, interesting and informative interviews, some fabulous legal tech solutions, and exceptional hospitality.
