The itch-scratch-itch cycle in conditions like atopic dermatitis can be one of the most burdensome for patients, especially when it occurs during times of rest and disrupts sleep. In vitro performance testing of topical semi-solids - APV Seminar In vitro models play an important role in the development of topical semi-solids. - IVRT studies are essential for equivalence testing in generic development projects, in the context of scale-up and post-approval changes, and to demonstrate consistent release behavior for modified and extended release formulations. Different regulatory guidelines exist for different purposes and geographies. - IVPT testing also plays an important role in generic drug development, but is also used to address pharmacokinetic and safety/toxicology issues. Again, there are different regulatory guidelines. - Investigation of the cutaneous biodistribution of active ingredients in different skin layers (e.g. RaDes' "Hamburg Model") is an important tool in the development of innovative formulations, especially for the selection of the right active ingredient candidates and formulation approaches. - The use of Raman spectroscopy is an emerging tool for skin penetration analysis which complements the above mentioned technologies and adds further options. My colleague Sascha Gorissen and I from RaDes GmbH will contribute to the seminar "In-vitro Performance Testing for Topically Applied Formulations" organized by APV.
