As some know, I support the non-profit LCS, Inc. in Racine, WI. as a board member. Lakeside Curative Services (LCS) Provides Training and Community Engagement for Youth and Adults of Varying Abilities to Enhance their Self Esteem and Quality of Life. LCS has found a creative way to raise additional funds by partnering with RaiseRight to support our mission. Raise Right enables you to purchase physical or electronic gift cards, and when doing so, a portion of the purchase is diverted back to LCS. Example: My purchase of $250 worth of gift cards auto-diverted $11.50 back to LCS and their fund-raising account without changing the value of the gift cards. A morning of writing thank you cards for one of my volunteering ventures— pta. These are typically nonprofit organizations that raise money to put on free or significantly discounted programs, events, or items for a local school. If you or your business ever gets a request from a PTA, the person asking you is most likely a parent working for free at the child’s school. Please consider donating something — a gift card or an item or a bundle from your business. If your business doesn’t have an item (say you are with a financial business), buy something local and make a card with it “From XYZ Financial.” Label it— take a picture of it. Self advertise yourself on social media too! This is typically a cheaper investment than taking out an ad somewhere. Your name is circulating the social media, school, newsletters etc. I have been rejected in requests, but I have also been treated rudely for asking! Please take time to read your requests… and, keep a spreadsheet of your donations for your year-end finances.

In our recent blog Managing Partner Steve Johnson wrote about third-party website cookies slated to go away by the end of 2024. It’s now more important than ever for businesses to collect first-party data. Here are 3 tactics to try: 1) Give people one-time discounts in exchange for their first name and email address. 2)  Ask them to sign up for a newsletter. This works especially well for nonprofits. People will often provide their email for a newsletter from a charity they give to, because they want to know what their donation helped support. 3)  Another tip for nonprofits: ask for more data when people donate, including fields for not only their email address but also for their MOBILE phone number and whether or not they prefer texting as the way to communicate with them.
