Applications are open for the next Winter 2025 batch 👇 To be clear, Iterative invests on a rolling basis, but we wanted to keep people updated on our batch timelines. The next batch is scheduled to start in February 2025, and while that may feel like a long way to go, we encourage founders to apply early for two reasons: ⭐ Invest upon admission - We invest the full amount upfront (up to $500K) - we don't wait for the program to begin to transfer the full investment. ⭐ Higher investment rate - We review applications on a rolling basis, and we've found that early applications have a much higher investment rate. An interesting observation: most devs do *not* necessarily gravitate to work at profit centers within companies. This is because many profit centers are generating revenue, but in return can feel “boring”… versus new projects that are greenfield and exciting. Some of those new projects have the opportunity to later become profit centers… but many will either be cost centers or later on, discontinued/merged in. But they provide lots of challenges before either of those outcomes manifest. This is very similar to how companies that are incumbents and mostly focused on extracting more value/profit from existing products are usually a lot less exciting to work at: versus working at a startup that is actively experimenting on how to disrupt the status quo. This is the case not just for devs, but folks like product managers, designers and other professions where creative experimentation and scaling up once hitting a “pull” is often more interesting than incrementally tweaking an existing product. Today, I want to share my favorite question, one that originated during my time at Typeform, running our “Testing Lab" with Dug Falby . 🧪 We created the Testing Lab to help Product Managers and Designers run more effective experiments. 🚧 Often, teams would use A/B tests for significant changes with many pieces of the user experience being changed, incurring high cost of development. We believed they could learn just as much at a much lower cost. 🧠 During our weekly open hour, we have had some of the most insightful discussions of my career. 💡 But the one key takeaway I got out of it is the importance of asking: “If your experiment fails, why would that be?” ⚙️ If the response is a lengthy list, it indicates a poorly designed experiment. Such experiments won't yield clear insights, wasting time and resources. Whether it yields positive or negative income. This simple question challenges teams to: - Clarify their hypotheses - Understand what they want to learn/test and what they are truly testing - Ensure the experiment is the best method to learn what they want to learn 🎉These few words triggered much deeper discussion about the teams’ goals and allowed many to revised their plans and focus on their most fundamental problems in a much more efficient way. So whether you are a Product Manager, Designer or Leader I encourage you to ask yourself, and your team, this question.
