I received this text message from a CEO I work with who runs a fast-growing, multi-million dollar technology company. What was the exercise? At an offsite, the CEO shared his whole life story and then invited the rest of the team to do the same. Its sometimes called a lifeline exercise (link in first comment). Its simple, yet hard. Hard to intentionally prioritize the time. Hard to be vulnerable. Hard to facilitate it the first time. But the rewards are amazing. We incorporated this practice into the fabric of the Salesloft executive leadership team and, as this text reminded me, the results are remarkable. Each time we did it we knew we were standing on the sacred ground of each other's stories. Our shared humanity -- the common struggles and victories we all face in life -- bound us together and laid the foundation for becoming a highly cohesive team that tackled hard goals together. Try it out. You won't regret it. Onward and upward!
