Hey everyone! I'm happy to share a significant milestone in my professional journey. I've just obtained a new certification: Aviation Management Program from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University & International Air Transport Association (IATA). This is a comprehensive certificate program that encompasses six courses in the dynamic field of aviation. 🛫 1. Air Transport Fundamentals, 2. Airline Marketing, 3. Airline Management, 4. International Aviation Management, 5. Leadership Development and 6. Airline Strategic Planning.

As a current MSc (International Business Management) student at the Northumbria University, Newcastle, UK, I assumed the role of finance manager in a business simulation game based on the European car market (Rizz Motor Company). Collaborating with my talented colleagues Hui Yee Tan (Production Manager), Sharada Udagedara (Operations Manager), and LILIAN PERE-SINCLAIR (Marketing Manager), we navigated challenges alongside seasoned professionals from diverse backgrounds and participated in four rounds over the course of one month.Despite the competition, our team diligently pursued our objectives, showcasing the skills honed through our coursework. Through strong leadership, collaborative effort, and strategic decision-making, we surpassed all competitor companies, achieving outstanding results and positioning ourselves as the number one company. Our team showcased strong management skills, navigating complex financial landscapes. We collaborated effectively, demonstrating leadership and adaptability in dynamic market conditions. After four months of relentless preparation, alongside a full-time MBA, participating at the #JohnMolsonInternationalCaseCompetition earlier this January in Montreal, Canada was nothing short of exhilarating. My teammates and I, Elisabeth Raff, Shashank Parikh, and Yuk Lun (Lun) Yeung, under the inspiring guidance of our coach Luca Fiorentino journeyed through every human emotion as we prepared to battle it out against 30 international business schools. The process was intense and transformative, akin to being part of a secret society where only those who've lived it can truly understand (Fight Club?!). More than this, I now know 4 people I can call when s#!t needs to get done. We were able to move the dial on some complex business issues in just 3 hours, leading the competition all the way to the semifinals! This is the power of a team that is committed to each other's personal growth and not just the outcome. This experience has given me hope. If 4 people from wildly different backgrounds can come together in such a short period of time and become a force, imagine what whole business communities could do for the betterment of the wicked global challenges we face. More than being a Subject Matter Expert (SME) is required for the training and development of aviation professionals. To truly elevate the aviation industry (and there is a real need today), we must ensure that the training programs incorporate theoretical knowledge and practical skills, up-to-date aviation technology, real-world scenarios and examples, and teaching methods tailored to learners' needs (oooohhhh...it is associated with Major Soft Skills that we do not acquire just by piling up hundredth certificates online!). While specific expertise is crucial, it can become obsolete (and quickly very boring) without effective instructional skills and pedagogy adapted to the audience. A comprehensive approach must by designed to equip professionals with the skills and knowledge they need to overcome the challenges they face, thereby significantly improving safety and efficiency in aviation.
