January 18, 2024: Today is National Michigan Day! This day recognizes the 26th state to join the U.S. Some interesting facts about ‘The Great Lakes State’ include:
· At 3,2,88 miles, Michigan has the nation’s longest freshwater coastline.
· Michigan has more lighthouses than any other state. Since the 1820s approximately 150 lighthouses have been built.
· The University of Michigan’s stadium, “The Big House,” in Ann Arbor, is the largest stadium in the US with a seating capacity of 107,601. Only India’s Narendra Modi Stadium and North Korea’s Rungrado 1st of May Stadium are bigger.
· There are eight places named Detroit in America. These towns are located in Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Maine, Illinois, Kansas, and Alabama. Detroit, Michigan, is the most well-known.
· Detroit is not just “the Motor City” but is also the birthplace of the first paved road in America.
FIGG provided an on-site maintenance inspection for the Michigan Department of Transportation on the Zilwaukee Bridge located in Saginaw County, Michigan. FIGG inspected the box girder interior and exterior, bearings, expansion joints, abutments, and upper piers on this twin 8,080’ long viaduct carrying I-75 over the Saginaw River. FIGG also performed a load rating analysis of the Zilwaukee Bridge and Ramp H.
