The SiriusJet uses 28 ducted fans to minimize noise. Twenty fans are positioned along the wings, and eight are mounted in the canard, each driven by its own electric motor. This 3-seater aircraft boasts a range of 1150 miles (1850 km). The SiriusJet is designed to produce less than 60 dB of noise and is a zero-emission aircraft with no environmental impact. This VTOL plane takes off and lands like a helicopter but flies as fast as an airplane. Its 1150-mile range surpasses typical electric eVTOLs, which usually reach only about 150 miles. With a pressurized cabin and ducted fan design, the SiriusJet can reach altitudes of 30,000 feet and cruise at speeds of 520 km/h (323 mph). Despite modern avionics like AHRS and GPS, which rely on electricity and signals that can fail, the magnetic compass continues to function as long as the Earth's magnetic field exists. It does have errors, but these are consistent and manageable with proper understanding, ensuring it can guide pilots effectively when other systems fail. Various compass types, such as the traditional liquid-filled compass and the more advanced vertical-card compass, have their respective advantages and challenges. The liquid-filled compass can suffer from fluid loss and require periodic maintenance to ensure accuracy, while the vertical-card compass offers better stability and reduced error through eddy current damping. Accurate readings from any compass necessitate understanding its inherent errors, applying necessary corrections, and maintaining proper calibration. Despite advancements in technology, the magnetic compass remains a crucial, dependable backup in the cockpit, proving its enduring value in aviation.
