Thrips pests are commonly found in chili fields, and their population tends to increase due to drought caused by El Niño. We implement specific treatments to control the thrips population in chili plants using environmentally friendly methods to suppress thrips and other pests on chili plants. By utilizing Agrobío bumblebees for pollination and predators like Cucumeris and Orius, LITTYWOOD FARM LIMITED ensures effective thrips management. Rebecca Durkin, our crop protection specialist, visits Littywood Farm every two weeks throughout the season. They closely monitor how the predators establish in combination with the pest pressure. A short experience from the field! We've been nurturing ash gourd on our fields over 1 ha. of land. However, we encountered a challenge in the form of the notorious melon fly (Bactrocera cucurbitae), wreaking havoc on our precious crop. This pest has been causing visible damage, as you can see in the photos of the affected plants and the larvae of the melon fly. To combat this threat, we've implemented a proactive strategy by installing 10 specialized lure traps. These traps have proven incredibly effective in mitigating the infestation, as evidenced by our improving crop health and reduced pest presence. Why is Hydroponic Lettuce Better Than Traditional Lettuce? *Hydroponic lettuce is growing by Urban Vatika. Hydroponic lettuce offers all the benefits of traditional, soil-grown lettuce. But it has the advantage of being protected from the contaminants that so often lead to food recalls. It is also more sustainable, using less water, no soil, and no chemical pesticides. In addition to these benefits, hydroponic lettuce is far less likely to suffer contamination. Lettuces, in particular, are highly susceptible to dangers like e.coli. 🔥🐜 QFF recently provided a submission to the Senate Standing Committees on Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport regarding the National Red Imported #FireAnts Eradication Program. QFF applauds the federal government's substantial $268 million commitment in the ongoing battle against red imported fire ants (RIFA), however, it is important to acknowledge the continued need for financial and resource commitment beyond 2027. Fire ants pose a significant threat to the national #environment and economy. Their destructive behaviours such as consuming seedlings, preying on pollinating insects, and tunnelling through roots and stems of plant and cropping systems, majorly disrupt ecological systems. The #agricultural sector, in particular the #sugarcane, #horticultural and nursery and garden industries, bear the brunt of this invasive pest, with substantial economic burdens estimated at $2 billion annually, including a potential 40% reduction in agricultural output. To address this #InvasiveSpecies effectively, a forceful and targeted eradication approach is essential, to safeguard the economy from future long-term consequences of these invasive pests. Cost of eradication will only grow with delay and unfortunately to eradicate these invasive pests, a substantial upfront cost will be needed.
