As a human-centered AI researcher in the current moment, I am spending a lot of time grappling with the profound shifts that Generative AI brings to our mental models and co-creative relationships with AI systems. The nature of Generative AI requires rethinking design principles to support a new paradigm of human-AI experiences in responsible ways. This paper and 7-minute video presentation from IBM Research AI do the best job I've seen so far of articulating design principles that acknowledge these profound shifts and can help teams think productively about the implications as well as the opportunities for designing with "generative variability".
