Dear all Targets, Kohls, Walmarts, ALDIs, Home Depot’s, Krogers, Jewels & all other stores that have self checkout…. You are heading towards almost exclusively self-checkouts now. The lady/man checking receipts at the exit was stopping everyone. I didn't choose to participate in that nonsense, I had already: 🛒filled my cart 🛒emptied my cart 🛒scanned the items 🛒refilled my cart and so I just skipped the exit line and left. I heard her saying "umm - Excuse me“ as I kept walking and raised the receipt above my head, leaving the store. You can either trust me to do self-checkout, or you can put your cashiers back in place like it used to be. • I'm not interested in proving that I did your job for you. • If you want me to be a cashier with no training then that's your problem not mine. • Keep employing young people and give them job opportunities. YOU DON'T PAY ME TO SCAN MY OWN SHOPPING. YOU DON’T GIVE ME STAFF DISCOUNTS FOR WORKING FOR YOU. Signed ......All of us These are jobs that are needed to have for young and old ….. "The Unpaid Checkout Assistant: A Personal Perspective" I recently came across a thought-provoking piece from my hometown in Norway. I felt compelled to translate and share it with you in English. "You do not pay me to do this" To: Coop, Meny, Bunnpris, Rema 1000, Ikea, and all the other self-checkout stores, In the not-so-distant future, self-checkout registers might be all that remains in many of your stores, with store staff vigilantly watching over the process. This close scrutiny, while popular today, is something I find entirely unnecessary. I, for one, have chosen not to partake in this apparent nonsense. Before completing my purchase, I've already: -Loaded up my shopping cart. -Emptied the shopping cart. -Scanned the items. -Packed the items into bags. -Re-filled the shopping cart. As I make my way toward the exit, I often hear an authoritative "Hey, you!!" But instead of stopping, I simply hold my receipt aloft and continue walking. Here's why: Trust Matters: Either you trust me to use the self-checkout register honestly, or you should consider reverting to the regular checkout system. Not My Job: I have no interest in proving that I've done your job for you. Untrained Cashier: If you want me to be a cashier without proper training, that's your problem, not mine. No Perks: I don't receive an employee discount when I shop, so why should I take on additional responsibilities? Employment Opportunities: Consider continuing to hire young people who need job opportunities. These roles are essential for those with limited education and work experience, both young and old.
