I stumbled on this video, and as an immigrant, I love the message (well, the main message). Since I moved to the US, I have witnessed the good, the bad, and the ugly. My experience has shown me that diversity brings a wealth of perspectives, ideas, and strengths to the table. Being kind beyond fear! Being kind beyond being right! Being kind beyond judgement… What would the world look like? I work with people in or observing conflicts in their workplace. Conflicts are connected with fear of loss (of control, respect, acceptance, benefits etc). Conflicts are connected with judgement (who is right or wrong based on interpretation). I observe how helping people overcome fear and judgement leads to understanding and kindness every time I mediate a conflict situation. At the same time fear keeps conflict parties from entering a mediation very often. If you observe people around you at work having conflicts or just showing body language of disagreement and reluctance… step in! Try to ask each person individually what helps to overcome their judgement and be kind. The sooner the better. If you do not see any way out for yourself or others, seek professional support. No disagreement or fear has to end in escalated conflict.
