Breaking News for BIPOC and Woman-Owned Businesses in Health and Beauty! Today, Mayor Eric Adams announced AYO LABS at the Brooklyn Navy Yard - a catalytic project for entrepreneurs in the wellness and beauty industry.    R. F. Wilkins Consultants, Inc. will develop and operate AYO Labs, a state-of-the-art facility to foster an innovation, economic mobility, and commercialization. The $25 million manufacturing ecosystem will to support over 100 entrepreneurs annually as they develop and scale their companies. The project, the brainchild of Francilia Wilkins Rahim, MBA, will be the nation’s largest Black-woman-owned contract manufacturing facility, anchored in a business incubator and accelerator. It's more than just a space; it's a game-changer for BIPOC and women entrepreneurs.   According to a 2022 McKinsey report, the beauty and wellness industry has a $450 billion market share, only 2.5 percent of the revenue can be linked to Black-founded or -owned beauty companies despite Black consumers making up 11 percent of spending.
