Last week we held our second Cultivating WOW! Workshop, this time in Cartagena, with our leaders based in Latin America. The main purpose of the meeting was to introduce to this group of individuals our new way of working (WOW), centered on #selfmanagement. The announcement was not surprising to our leaders. But what was surprising was that the new structure not only removes their roles as #managers, but also eliminates the country-based operational structures which have been the norm at Caravela Coffee for more than 10 years. In the new WOW, those geographic structures will be replaced by functional areas that encompass the whole company, horizontally, instead of vertically. With the help of Alba Martinez Rangel, Jairo Abello and Mauricio Ledezma Rodríguez, we explained the concepts of #selfmanagement, #selfawareness, and viable system model (VSM) to give them the conceptual clarity for the new journey ahead. Even though the concepts are dense, specially VSM, the team's #energy and #connection, their sense of #belonging, and their #commitment to our purpose helped them embrace them easily. In 2021, we started navigating towards the “One Caravela” philosophy. This philosophy's goal is to eliminate silos, as well as any cultural and geographical barriers, to act as one-team, all aligned with our culture and the shared-purpose of "making coffee better". However, the challenge of aligning almost 250 coffee professionals, spread amongst 4 continents and 12 countries around the world, has proven far more difficult than I anticipated. By removing any physical (and mental) barriers, giving them autonomy, and working inter-dependently, I firmly believe that we will be able to double down on the #onecaravela philosophy. And that the result will be a more #agile, #resilient and #innovative organization, while generating even more #value and #impact to our trusted partners, both in Origin and in Destination, ultimately helping #makecoffeebetter. Despite the uncertainty that this new WOW presents, and that there are more questions than answers at this point, the team present in Cartagena enthusiastically embraced this new WOW. The next steps will most likely prove even more challenging, as we will now work on defining the roadmap to transition from our current WOW to the new one in the next 12-18 months. I have no doubt that there will be some rough waters along the way, but that the learnings will help us come out even stronger and more connected to our purpose. What a day yesterday was. The Cultura Connect team met for a day of canoeing down the River Severn which was a great opportunity to catch up with each other, meet the "new guy" Rob Bentham, discuss current roles, future roles and ideas for the development of the company, but most importantly have a laugh! 🛶 A pleasant surprise was to receive the 'Company Values Award' from the previous winner Laura Morris. The Cultura Team have worked hard on identifying and developing our core values, and every single one of our team strives to uphold them. In my particular case it was in recognition of resilience and being team orientated. So what are our core values? Our core values are at the heart of everything we do: 1. 💪 Resilient 2. 💖 Compassionate 3. 👫 Team Orientated 4. 🌟 Integrity 5. 🚀 Proactive 6. ❤️🔥 Passion for the Industry 7. 🌱 Growth Mindset Next was the canoeing. I partnered up with @Rob Bentham and Tom Marsh for the 12 miles from Montofrd Bridge to the centre of Shrewsbury. After a mile or two we got past the stage of splashing water at the other boats and pushing them in to the bank and on the serious business of finding lunch. This was supplied by Sam and Claire Barker from Great Berwick Organics and their hospitality was perfect. It was also interesting to hear about the development of their business, the longhorn cattle, the online shop, supplying pub chains, their collaboration with Pipers Crisps, the two shoots they run...you get the picture! It's great to hear about businesses that are going from strength to strength and how they are taking on new opportunities and running with them. All ties in with our own core values! 🌍✨ Thrilled to announce that I've completed the X-Culture program! ✨🌍 X-Culture is a large-scale international experiential learning and business consulting project involving over 6,000 MBA and business students from 135+ universities in 70 countries on six continents every semester. Since its inception in 2010, more than 118,000 students have participated in this transformative experience. During this program, I had the privilege of working in a global virtual team, collaborating with peers from around the world. Together, we navigated cultural differences, time-zone challenges, and global communication hurdles to complete a comprehensive international business consulting project for a client company. 📊 Our Task: Develop an international market expansion strategy Analyze the competitive position of the client company Assess strengths, weaknesses, threats, and opportunities Identify the most promising markets Conduct in-depth analyses of economic, cultural, and political environments Create market entry, pricing, promotion, marketing, and HR strategies Provide recommendations for logistics and product adaptations for new markets This experience has significantly enhanced my global collaboration, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills. I'm grateful to my incredible team members and the X-Culture coordinators for this enriching journey. The topic of discussion? "Radical Candor," a concept that has had a profound impact on our team's #growth and #development.   In the workshop, Karolina delved into the principles of "Radical Candor," a concept introduced by author Kim Scott in 2017. So with regards to my comment at https://lnkd.in/eP3ykhu5 support have replied and gave an auto response suggesting that GetYourGuide does not wish to have a supply partner that has been adding products and has had numerous bookings in the two weeks we've been allowed on the platform, and so now suddenly GetYourGuide decides that the current demand patterns on the platform are high and our product is not diverse enough or aligns with this trend even though we have been and are getting multiple bookings and sales, but there are numerous, similar and same as our products that are still active on GetYourGuide. How do you even come to this conclusion this quickly when you don't allow a supply partner time to meet these demands and adapt to the changing habits of touring customers. We have been on the platform for less than a month and GetYourGuide has somehow decided that our products are not deemed to be on their platform but we have had numerous bookings. This draconian behavior is not what I expected from a platform that focuses on providing the customer with a choice with whom they want to book their tour and or experience. The customer should be responsible for whom they choose to book their tour with, GetYourGuide should not force a supply partner to close shop, just because their auto bot or some other internal process deems it necessary without any discussion, communication, or dialogue. We’ve had regular bookings and this has come as a surprise to us, but maybe not as we’re not the only one I guess. In comparison, your competitor has a more mature approach to dealing with product changes and updates and does not employ these harsh tactics that you are applying to supply partners. This practice should be reviewed and dealt with by humans who engage with suppliers in reviewing the product for making any changes and not applying automated disabling of accounts where legitimate supply partners like us are giving customers the choice in tour services.
