True. But American views on every cultural and civic institution are down. Every one is down more than higher education. Something is going on, but it's probably not that anyone is rejection higher ed specifically.

This is a sad but very predictable. Higher education has a big public relations problem in that it keeps showing up in the media for all the wrong reasons. If we could only create better press and showcase all the good things that higher education is doing, it confidence ration would be much better.

Exactly who did Gallup poll? People with landlines who answer the phone. That is not a representative sample of the American people. Their words, "The research includes the trend results reported above from Gallup’s June telephone survey ". They seriously need to do better.
