Today I like to brag about the great women around (me).
First out my grandma Melitta Morichetto (1914-2002), born in Böhmen in the Austrian Hungarian empire (later Sudet, which was annected by Nazis in 1937) . She escaped in 1948 to Sweden after WWII (mitigating risk for the family ending up in a Russian working camp in Poland). With my grandpa Dolf, my mom and my uncle, they packed a train car with most important and left partners, relatives, familiy, friends, daily life. She was a true leader of family - from wealthy childhood, to fearless escape to a summerhouse in Sweden - and then rebuilt family and decensy in a new country learning language, culture and evolved friends, job, a new family business and brought up two children. I think of all moms doing the same now from Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan, Myanmar... to another unknown place (and praying they will have the same good faith on what ever strand they arrive... as my grandma and mum have had).
Grandma Melitta told med that leaders, role models, responsible citizens has nothing to do with gender, but with personality and attitude.
Secondly - and actually maybe more important for this posting - my wife Wickie Meier. She has been a leader type since childhood, both in her family, but also after that in her life, for me and our children. She is also a serial entrepreneur, today as founder and director at Kvadrat Really , since 11 years, and before that co-founder of eg. The Index Project and many more companies and activities. Back in 2002 she had the vision of "Design to improve life" and have continuously kicked that ball in everything she does.
Today, the International Women's Day, is that not about support women, but acknowledge they exist, and contribute equally in all ways and matter to life, society, business and global positive development. Like men do. So cherish them, and they will cherish you - not matter what gender you have.
Thirdly - I think of all hundreds of women entrepreneurs and investors in sustainability I have had the fortune to have worked with the last 10 years (and the men too of course). I have so much respect for all of you. You fulfill my life, and everyone's life with learning, inspiration, leadership and more. Eg. startup founder and CEO Julia Bialetska at S.Lab, partner in Startup Wise Guys Alexandra Balkova, investor and VC GP Mette Fløe Nielsen, social impact entrepreneur Birgitte Frost Mathiesen, international aid leader Gitte Dyrhagen Husager, impact venture leader Funda Sezgi...
Feminine. Masculine. It doesn't matter. In my world there's no real difference. Just words. Equality is what matters. In all ways. When you think about it (with a systemic view...) inequality is perhaps the main roots to climate change, toxic environment, nature damage, social injustice and all other global challenges. If we don't see each other equally - why should we bother about looking after each other and the surrounding society, environment and nature?
