🦋 Transformative Organizational Change | Disruption -> Opportunity | Women’s Circles | CrossFit Athlete & Long Distance Swimmer | Advisor | Facilitator | Speaker

I swam. I froze. I struggled. I finished :) 🏊♀️ On Saturday morning, July 20th, I competed alongside 225 fellow athletes in a 3-mile frigid Colorado mountain lake swim. In those 97 minutes, when I wasn't panicking about the temperature or whether I was going straight or in circles, I uncovered five vital lessons on leadership and organizational change: 🎯 1) Milestones as Motivators: Just like the buoys that marked my progress, clear milestones in change initiatives keep everyone focused and motivated. ⚖ 2) Continuous Self-Assessment: Adjusting my course in the water (over and over again) mirrors the need for change leaders to regularly check and realign their strategies. 🚤3) Value of External Perspectives: Stand-up paddleboarders floating along the path to help when needed, like external consultants or mentors from an outside function, offer essential unbiased insights. 🌊 4) Change Agility: Just as I adapted to the lake, organizations must acclimate to new environments and cultures with agility. 🤝 5) Resource Management: Managing my energy during the swim parallels how businesses must strategically manage their resources during changes. Swimming in that lake was not just about endurance, but about embracing each wave of change (cold, actual waves, misdirection, etc.) with fortitude and agility. And each stroke was a reminder that effective change management is about strategy, resilience, and teamwork. Swimming through change and struggling? Let's talk :) Want to dive a bit deeper (🤣)?
