Learnings for the day: (8 May, 2024) Initiatives taken by various organizations like SIDBI, ONDC, OCEN towards helping MSMEs in India Some issues which cause lack of transmission of the benefit to the intended parties w.r.t government schemes (lack of awareness, complexity of availment process to name a couple) The roles being fulfilled by various stakeholders of the MSME environment in India. (MSME Associations, Banks, Nodal Agencies, Government to name a few) Value of pull marketing based on product rather than always relying on a push strategy. Providing discounts can have negative effect of devaluing the product if discounts are being provided when it hasnt been asked for in the first place. Objective alignment, resource sharing and level-footed discussion are important elements of a collaboration agreement or negotiation. Clarification of even the tiniest queries can prevent bigger issues which are caused by assumptions. Knowledge of how a distribution network functions and what actions can be taken to further improve existing ones. Gratitude: I would like to express my gratitude to CA Ankush Jain , Bhavya Gandhi , Rupesh Jain , Shweta Bhadouria , Rishabh, Gagan Khatri , Esha Shah , CA Parag Jain (CS BCom) , Rahul Jain Gandhi and sakina zenith for guiding us through the day of discussion with the interns from NIBM. I would also like to express thanks to the interns from NIBM for taking the time to share their findings with all the new joinees. I would also like to express my gratitude to Sakina and Esha for arranging a fabulous lunch.

For a young IAS officer, the first field posting is always special. It's where you finally get to apply the lessons you learned at LBSNAA. It's like being at the steering wheel after having driving lessons. However, waiting for the order on this Sunday afternoon brainstorming about possible permutations and combinations across geographical, cultural, economics and strategic dimensions made me realize the diversity of opportunities the IAS provides, especially in a cadre like West Bengal West Bengal is the only state that stretches from the Himalaya in the north to the Bay of Bengal in the south! I might find myself amidst the serene hills of Darjeeling, the golden beaches of Digha, or the sprawling plains where the holy Ganges flows! I might be stationed in a bustling metro like Kolkata, a tranquil countryside, or perhaps in a district with significant tribal populations, learning their unique ways. Could it be an industry-driven district, buzzing with factories and innovation, or an agriculturally rich area, where fields stretch endlessly under the open sky? Will my post be in a border district, resonating with the vigilance and pride of our proximity to Bangladesh, Bhutan, or Nepal, or somewhere deeper inside the heartland? Will I be in a district with a population rivaling entire European nations, or a more modest, manageable one where each face becomes familiar and every story is a shared journey? The list of diversity is endless, and so is my excitement and anticipation. This is just the diversity in the field; the diversity in policy domains is even more. The landscapes may change, the people may vary, and the challenges will certainly differ, but one thing remains steadfast and unchanging: the spirit of service. I strive to embrace this journey with an open heart and a determined spirit, ready to face whatever comes my way with grace and resolve - whether in the hills, the plains, or by the sea!

The BLCs known as BRAC Training and Resource Centre (TARC) then, were designed as spaces of reflection and retreat. As spaces of inspiration. When I joined BRAC in 2001, these spaces were used almost exclusively by BRAC, and TARCs used to be a confluence of BRAC staff across the programs, new joiners in the field, para professionals, and community members. We participated in morning work before breakfast and sang the national anthem together. There were weekly cultural evenings organised by the participants. It was a space of learning and building culture by doing, relating, conversing, and imagining different. It was all about growing and discovering. BRAC 's approach to buiding capacity I found focussed on the core belief of human potential and flourishing, and a lot of attention was paid to the pedagogical innovations of learning drawing from global knowledge but also continuously innovating from field practice. Capacity was way more than technical skill transfer. Times are different. But I feel that the principles of this approach to development is not only important but even more relevant now as we move into uncharted terrains. We need to take a contemporary approach to this experience and build for the future from the foundations. [PC: Me @BLC Rangpur]
