Over the 3 years working in the industry, I’ve seen some big mistakes organisations make with their EV charging infrastructure. Examples include:     Installing chargers without a plan for the future, selecting non-OCPP chargers and being stuck with poor service, ordering vehicles and then rushing to get any form of charging in, and not realising that Landlord Agreements can take a while and be costly (this list is not exhaustive). If you’re starting or in the process of your transition, here are 6 key considerations I’d recommend to ensure you don’t end up in the same situation:    1. Assessment     ✅Get senior management onboard early to understand why electrification’s happening and how it’ll benefit them and the business.     🤞Ensure everyone’s on the same page by bringing all key stakeholders, from Facilities, Fleet and Sustainability together.     ⚡Understand your power – how much have you got and how much do you use!     🚗Know your fleet – how many miles do they travel and how long are they parked up during the day and/or over-night.     This is also where you need to plan for the future, as mistakes now can be costly. 2. Installation     Consider what you can do now to support your future EV charging infrastructure needs…     ❔Are any Landlord Agreements in place before the work commences.     ❔Is everything in place with any potential power increase or new supply.    3. Getting on the road  Set up ‘driver days’ where your employees can drive EVs and ask any questions they may have about charging at work and on the road.    4. Maintenance and optimisation    Set up a demonstration for your fleet and operations teams to show exactly how EV data analysis can help cut costs, improve efficiencies and optimise energy use.  5. Sustainability     To prove your sustainability progress, work with a carbon accounting tool to understand your existing footprint and track your decarbonisation journey. 6. The new tool, called Electric Vehicle Infrastructure – Locally Optimized Charging Assessment Tool and Estimator (EVI-LOCATE), originally was developed for federal agencies but will be made available to the public later this year. “EVI-LOCATE is unique in that it estimates the cost of installing charging stations at any given location,” he said. The company has won a National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) funding award from its home state of Georgia to build four DC fast chargers at a Waffle House in Tifton, and four more at a Shell station in Metter. EnviroSpark, which won two of the five eligible sites in Phase 1 of the state’s NEVI awards, will host all eight stations on its national EnviroSpark charging network. The company will begin construction and installation later this year. The new Waffle House charging stations mark the second collaboration between the EV charging operator and the Southern culinary icon—and more may follow. In February, the Tennessee DOT selected EnviroSpark to build stations at a Lakeland, Tennessee Waffle House. “We are honored to once again partner with Waffle House—a fellow Georgia-based business,” said EnviroSpark co-founder Stephanie Luque, who also leads the company’s federal initiatives. “NEVI-funded projects like these represent huge steps toward reducing drivers’ range anxiety and moving us closer to mass EV adoption.” According to GDOT, Georgia is among the top 10 states for EV sales, and three of the top five largest pending investments in the growing EV supply chain are in Georgia. Georgia has around 1,200 public charging stations, but only 14 stations currently meet both the distance and power requirements under federal rules (minimum of four 150 kW ports and located within one mile of an Alternative Fuel Corridor). “The Georgia NEVI Deployment Program outlines the state’s approach to using our federal funding to address EV infrastructure gaps in our state’s Alternative Fuel Corridors,” said Georgia DOT Deputy Chief Engineer Andrew Heath. “In order for us to be successful, we are turning to the private sector to deliver this innovative infrastructure at strategic locations across our state through public-private partnerships.”"

This January, Pennsylvania federal and state officials announced the energization of the state’s first electric vehicle charging station under a previously approved $2.5 billion grant to enhance the electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure in the country. The new charging station was constructed in Pittson along Route 315 at the Pilot Travel Center and was built in collaboration with General Motors and EVgo, an EV charging network provider. Pennsylvania received a total of $171.5 million of the previously announced $2.5 billion grant. Under the following grant, Pennsylvania set out on an initiative to install new EV charging stations at gas stations and other businesses along major interstates. The following milestone overall assists the United States in achieving a clean energy transportation system, while increasing the number of publicly available EV charging stations along major highways and providing economic benefits to the surrounding communities involved in the proposed EV developments. #EVProject #electricvehicles #EVInitiative #EVGrant #cleanenergy #transporation #evinfrastructure #pennsylvania #UnitedStates #MAPSearch #ENvision
