Fascinating paper about how #cyclodextrin can be used for treating lipid metabolism disorders. More than 50 studies are collected in this review, which is the basic database of this study. The academic bubble map showed that this research area was popular in the United States. Cluster analysis showed that the intensively studied diseases in this field were Niemann–Pick type C (NPC), atherosclerosis (AS), and obesity. The hot-spot cyclodextrin types were HP-β-CD. Literature measurement revealed the involvement of 15 types of lipid metabolism diseases. Among them, NPC, diabetes, and obesity were studied in clinical trials. Dyslipidemia and AS have been reported relatively more frequently in animal experiments. The studies of cellular experiments provide insight into the molecular mechanisms that intervene in lipid metabolism diseases from multiple perspectives. Mitochondrial Dysfunction Was Involved in Decabromodiphenyl Ethane-Induced Glucolipid Metabolism Disorders and Neurotoxicity in Zebrafish Larvae. ABSTRACT: Decabromodiphenyl ethane (DBDPE), a novel brominated flame retardant, is becoming increasingly prevalent in environmental and biota samples. While DBDPE has been shown to cause various biological adverse effects, the molecular mechanism behind these effects is still unclear. In this research, zebrafish embryos were exposed to DBDPE (50-400 mug/L) until 120 h post fertilization (hpf). The results confirmed the neurotoxicity by increased average swimming speed, interfered neurotransmitter contents, and transcription of neurodevelopment-related genes in zebrafish larvae. #Metabolomics analysis revealed changes of metabolites primarily involved in glycolipid metabolism, oxidative phosphorylation, and oxidative stress, which were validated through the alterations of multiple biomarkers at various levels. We further evaluated the mitochondrial performance upon DBDPE exposure and found inhibited mitochondrial oxidative respiration accompanied by decreased mitochondrial respiratory chain complex activities, mitochondrial membrane potential, and ATP contents. However, addition of nicotinamide riboside could effectively restore DBDPE-induced mitochondrial impairments and resultant neurotoxicity, oxidative stress as well as glycolipid metabolism in zebrafish larvae. Taken together, our data suggest that mitochondrial dysfunction was involved in DBDPE-induced toxicity, providing novel insight into the toxic mechanisms of DBDPE as well as other emerging pollutants. Could Ozempic be the answer to a longer life? It’s the question many scientists are asking about the controversial drug, a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1), as some research suggests it could help humans age with less chronic diseases. The same goes for glucose-dependent insulinotropic peptide receptor agonists (GIP) such as Zepbound and Mounjaro, leaving some experts to start seeing them as potential longevity pills and considering how in the future they can be prescribed safely to more people, especially as rates of obesity continue to rise. “The singular most effective and consistent way of extending lifespan in animals is caloric restriction,” says Dr. Douglas Vaughan, a professor of medicine at Northwestern University and director of the Potocsnak Longevity Institute. “That’s been demonstrated to work on everything from worms to flies to mice to monkeys. If you can find a way to get people to chronically reduce their caloric intake, it sort of makes sense that it might have an effect on aging. It’s probably not as simple as that and there could be unexpected effects of these drugs that might negate or prevent the anti-aging effect, but it’s a great hypothesis and it needs to be tested rigorously.” Read more: bit.ly/4ebY6qz
