It is #WomenInConstruction Week and we have SO much to celebrate! This years WIC Week revolves around the theme of “Keys to the Future.” Opportunities for women truly are key to the future of construction. Did you know❔ 🚧There were 1.29 million women working in the US Construction industry in 2023. This number has been steadily increasing and is up by over 60% since 2012! 🚧On average, women in construction earn almost as much as men, at about 99.1%. 🚧At 11.4%, the number of women in PA's construction workforce is higher than that of our neighboring states DE, NJ, NY, OH, and WV. 🚧About 13% of construction companies are owned by women. As a Certified Woman Business Enterprise and Women Owned Construction Company, JEM's culture of diversity is not distinct from enhancing overall quality, but is integral to achieving it. In just ten years, they’ve presided over 400% growth from £5m to £23m; ten years of surplus; increased staff numbers from 220 to over 750; and diversified their social care business to include a property development arm, using surpluses to build apartments for people with learning disabilities.   If you are a woman at PossAbilities, look up, there’s no glass ceiling. 🩷Happy International Women's day🩷 This remarkable occasion not just marks the accomplishments and continued challenges that women across the entire world are facing but it also presents an inspirational way for women to join forces in order to contribute to the battle for equality. When we're not helping get heads into the beds of 5-star hotels, we're busy helping the San Gabriel Valley Chapter of Habitat for Humanity International create opportunities for home ownership in Southern California. Currently the median Los Angeles home price is more than 22 times the average Generation Z (adults currently aged 18-27) yearly salary, and fewer than 17% of people in this age group are able to purchase their own home. During last month's SGV Habitat Women Build Event, which focuses on women and housing through volunteer building events, educational seminars and more, they were able to provide two young women with they keys to their new homes in Baldwin Park. Women, especially those who serve as head of their families and women of color, disproportionately face obstacles to accessing decent, affordable housing, which impacts far more than housing. Homeownership is associated with better health, fewer illnesses, and lower rates of depression and anxiety. Additionally, statistics show children with stable housing have higher success rates in school.
