✨ As the new school year begins this September, we know many students are excited and potentially a bit anxious about making friends and finding their place, especially if you are starting a new school! Here are some tips to help you connect with new people and build great relationships! 1️⃣ Be open and approachable: Smile and make eye contact. Small gestures can make a big difference in showing you’re friendly. 2️⃣ Join Clubs: This is a great way to meet peers with similar interests. 3️⃣ Show interest in others: Ask questions and listen actively. 4️⃣ Be Yourself: Authenticity is key! 5️⃣ Unplug from your phone: Be present, hiding on your phone might let others believe you don’t want to talk to them or be their friend. If you are struggling talk to a family, guardian or teacher who may be able to help you out! #friendships #makingfriends #antibullying #bullyingprevention

Relationships are critical in young children’s lives and play an essential role in their development. How they manage relationships will have a huge impact on their lives. Through relationships, children learn how to think, understand, communicate, behave, express emotions and develop social skills. Relationships will help children to understand other people better and solve problems. Talk about different characters’ feelings or actions, and why the characters have these feelings or actions, and then link these to the relationship. For example: “The mother is giving the child a jacket, she loves her child and does not want the child to get cold”. #booksharing #relationships #earlychildhooddevelopment

An unpopular opinion: The skill of building a friendship is more important than the friend. Why? You always have the skill. You can’t always have the friend. Now, at first, this perspective seems to diminish friendship, making it something that feels less valuable. But it’s not a statement on the value of a friendship, it’s a pragmatic perspective that will enhance ourfriendships should we choose to apply it. If friendship-making-skills are tools ⚒️, then friendships are the result of the effort 💁🏻♂️. The better the tools, the better the results. Therefore, building this skill over a lifetime is worth it. Anyone who has crossed a couple of decades knows that the ease of friendship building through proximity in high school and college plummets into adulthood upon the arrival of responsibility, children, and career. But that shouldn’t keep us from growing great friendships! As life gets harder, that’s when we need friends the most. So, whatever this long weekend looks like for you, consider the value of practicing a couple of friendship-building skills: 1) Text someone with a simple word of appreciation for the friendship. 2) Call a friend to just check in, keeping the convo to 5-10 minutes. 3) Initiate a gathering of 3-5 people. 4) Celebrate a recent accomplishment of a friend with a card, a DoorDash delivery, or a surprise bouquet. It’s the practice of these small things, things that move connection forward and will shape the landscape of our friendships. There is nothing as valuable as friendship. // Photo courtesy of the Fab Four - these boys are officially 6th graders now! I’m so proud of how they’ve learned to build into their friendship.

LEARNING THE ACT OF LOVE AND NETWORKING FROM CHILDREN Children possess a remarkable ability to teach us profound lessons about life, often in the simplest and most sincere ways. Two areas where their wisdom shines particularly bright are in the acts of love and networking. Firstly, love, in its purest form, is a language children fluently speak. They embody unconditional love, devoid of judgment or prejudice. From the innocent embrace of a hug to the unprompted sharing of their favorite toy, children demonstrate that love is a natural instinct that transcends boundaries. They teach us that love is not solely about grand gestures or material possessions but resides in the small, everyday moments of connection and kindness. Secondly, networking, though it may seem like a daunting concept to many adults, is a skill that children effortlessly master on the playground. Watch as they approach each other without inhibition, eager to make new friends and explore shared interests. Children understand the power of genuine connection, showing us that networking is not about superficial exchanges but about building meaningful relationships based on mutual trust and understanding. In observing children, we learn that the essence of love and networking lies in authenticity, vulnerability, and openness. They remind us to approach relationships with an open heart, to embrace diversity, and to celebrate the joy of human connection. As we navigate the complexities of adulthood, let us not forget the valuable lessons we can glean from the unassuming wisdom of children. After all, in their innocence lies the profound truth about what it means to love and connect authentically. #LovelikeAChild #NetworkLikeAChild

Group friendships are overrated! Group friendships are often seen as important, but they may not always be as valuable as people think. In college, we often see groups of 5-10 friends, but only one or two of them may be our close friends. When we move away from home for education, these close friends become like family to us and are the ones we can rely on whenever we need them. What is your preference when it comes to friendships: having a large group of friends or a few close friends? Share your opinion in the comments below.
