Haffner Energy selects LanzaJet’s ATJ for Paris-Vatry SAF project Haffner Energy announced that it has selected LanzaJet to provide alcohol-to-jet (ATJ) technology for the biomass-thermolysis-to-SAF project at the Paris-Vatry airport in France. “Our collaboration with LanzaJet for the Paris-Vatry SAF project allows both companies to bring decisive advantages for the production of SAF through the ATJ pathway,” said Philippe Haffner, CEO, Haffner Energy. “We are thrilled to be working with LanzaJet and provide together a solution compatible with European mandates thanks to our combined technologies.” The project will have an initial capacity of 30,000 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) per year, with the possibility of tripling production. #SAFAviation #SustainableAviationFuel #CleanAviation #ReduceCarbonEmissions #NetZeroAviation #AviationSustainability #DecarbonizeAviation #FutureOfAviation #SustainableTravel Read full below. https://lnkd.in/eQzHunBw

Hy2gen subsidiary Hy2gen Norge and Amogy today have signed an MoU to drive the decarbonization progress in the maritime sector, Joint development projects shall help secure and scale the use of ammonia as a fuel. Hy2gen, the global developer, financier builder, owner and operator of renewable hydrogen and hydrogen-based e-fuels plants, and Amogy, the provider of ammonia power technology have signed an MoU to collaborate in the field of renewable ammonia. SEA-LNG COO, Steve Esau shares his latest insights into shipping’s energy transition in a recent gCaptain article, confronting the realities of green fuels and their scarce availability. With International Maritime Organization regulations on GHG emissions in mind, the industry must look to alternative fuels to decarbonise and meet long-term targets, but in the mid-term shipowners and operators' choices are limited due to the low-availability of renewable synthetic e-fuels and the heightened cost of these scarce resources. LNG reduces emissions by up to 23% in the two-stroke engines which dominate the installed base. Investing in these systems now accommodates the use of increasingly available bio-LNG produced from waste as a drop-in fuel. Implementing fuel-saving measures with LNG can reduce greenhouse gas emissions to meet IMO targets in the medium term. In the long term, as the hydrogen economy driven by renewable energy develops, renewable synthetic e-LNG can continue the journey to net zero. For transport that can’t be electrified directly we need alternative fuels produced at scale to reach net zero in 2050. In a new Turin Joint Statement on Sustainable Biofuels, that Topsoe and more than 75 industry leaders, trade associations and R&D organizations have signed, we want to put focus on the need for renewable biofuels to decarbonize transportation. Despite efforts to diversify energy sources, fossil fuels still dominate the transport sector, accounting for 95% of overall energy needs, 26% of global final energy consumption and 21% of CO2 emissions. Renewable biofuels and their value chains are key pillars in the decarbonization of transportation, alongside electrification, energy efficiency and other renewable fuels. Relying on mature technologies for their production, renewable fuels can be deployed here and now as a drop-in solution to help diversify energy sources and reduce emissions in the transport sector. We commend the Italian G7 and Brazilian G20 Presidencies for prioritizing renewable fuels, highlighting the global commitment to a greener future. The Statement was presented to the G7 Climate, Energy and Environment Ministers’ Meeting in Turin, Italy on 29 April and was noted in their 2024 Communiqué published on 30 April. Green hydrogen production hub approved to decarbonise transport and hospitals GreenPower has been given the go-ahead to produce green hydrogen at the Glenshellach Industrial Estate in Oban, with plans to help distilleries and fish farms move away from using fossil fuels “The west coast of Scotland is gearing up to begin the production of green hydrogen, with high hopes pinned on its potential to make transport greener and power hospitals sustainably. GreenPower has received the thumbs-up from Argyll and Bute Council for a planning application that aims to produce green hydrogen, hailed as "a zero-carbon fuel that can help meet climate obligations while delivering sustainable fuel for a range of purposes". The go-ahead means GreenPower will now set up a production and distribution hub at Glenshellach Industrial Estate in Oban, aiming to assist distilleries and fish farms in their transition away from fossil fuels. Produced through water electrolysis using renewable energy sources, green hydrogen offers a promising route to decarbonisation, and there's optimism it could even heat our homes in the future. GreenPower isn't stopping there; they're also investigating the possibility of generating hydrogen at the planned Barachander Wind Farm, which would be a companion to the existing Carraig Gheal Wind Farma 20-turbine venture by GreenPower in west Argyll. Scheduled to commence operations by the end of 2025, this green hydrogen initiative could become a national beacon, potentially exporting the eco-friendly fuel across the UK. In a boost to such projects, the UK Government announced in December funding support for 11 green hydrogen initiatives, branding them "essential to achieving our net zero targets". Paul Minto, GreenPower's director of green hydrogen, said: "With this planning consent for the Argyll Hydrogen Hub we are putting Oban on the UK green hydrogen map. In Argyll there are several sectors currently dependent on fossil fuels where fuel-switching could radically reduce carbon emissions, and where jobs can be created through local production and use of green hydrogen." "There is significant potential to decarbonise the transport sector including buses and coaches, HGVs serving distilleries, fish farms, forestry operations, refuse collection vehicles, and to fuel ferries, planes and trains. Green hydrogen could replace carbon-intensive fuels such as heating oil and LNG used in hospitals, leisure centres, care homes and industrial operations." Rob Forrest, GreenPower's chief executive, said: "We already have renewable energy facilities in Argyll and are delighted with this approval, which means we can take further steps in the region to create clean, green jobs and more economic development." Gasum and Nordic Ren-Gas have signed an e-methane offtake agreement. Nordic Ren-Gas’s Power-to-Gas plant in Tampere will produce annually 160 GWh of renewable e-methane, which Gasum will procure and distribute it to its customers.
