As the thermometer stubbornly lingered below freezing, it fuelled my desire to remind myself of warmer times. Our October trip to Pembrokeshire was unseasonably warm, which resulted in beach adventures and newly discovered locations. 🌅 Nestled at the mouth of the Teifi Estuary, Poppit Sands Beach is a perfect example of our explorations. At high tide, the sandy expanse is a picturesque haven, but low tide reveals a breathtaking stretch of sand that seems to reach almost Gwbert on the other side. However, watch the tide, especially when it's coming in – it moves fast! ⏰ Poppit Sands marks the beginning (or end) of the epic 186-mile Pembrokeshire Coast Path, an incredible journey that takes you along the entire coastline to Amroth in the south. If you are an avid walker, then lace up your hiking boots and embark on a coastal adventure like no other! 🥾 With the sheltered cove providing respite from the prevailing southwesterly winds it creates an ideal environment for wildlife watching. We’re out on the ocean for almost 3 weeks now. The passage from Rapa Nui to Pitcairn is not really going according to plan. First hick up: due to the weather we’re not going to Pitcairn anymore! It is late in the season and a lot of low pressure systems are coming up to the latitudes of Rapa Nui and Pitcairn. In this hemisphere we’re approaching winter. We’re now heading directly to the Gambiers islands. With us are three other Dutch boats who embarked on their journey from Patagonia. So at least we’re not completely alone. However, the last couple of weeks we had to deal with lots of changing weather. The first two days we had perfect sailing conditions. But since then it’s been either too much or too little wind and/or from the wrong direction. Three nights we took down all our sails and just floated - this was a first for us. We miss the trade winds! But at least we’re blessed now with a beautiful full moon that turns the night into day.
