The year 2023 comes to an end. I am deeply grateful for our colleagues, partners and customers for their effort, their passion, all open discussions and feedback. With your work and contribution, we are all #ImprovingAcuteCare day by day. When I look back at some of our achievements of the last 12 months, I see great proofs that we are continually realizing our vision of #ConnectedTechnologies in the acute care sector. For us, this is essential as healthcare providers are increasingly suffering of finding and keeping qualified personnel, while the demand for care is rising. Connected medical devices and data actively impact the delivery of care and are designed to enhance human capabilities in patient care. This year, we launched our first ISO/IEEE 11073 #SDC conformant system – the new Access and Control Package. With this system, we took the next step in patient surveillance and remote control to improve data availability at the point of care. The basis for this innovation is the SDC standard which enables the interoperability of medical devices. More to that, we demonstrated how open and vendor-independent interoperability technology can enable a safe distribution of medical alarms. Together with Ascom and B. Braun Gruppe , we realized a visionary silent ICU concept at HiMSS23. Our collaboration showed the power of an open industry standard, and the opportunities for improved patient care. And we will continue to work on that visionary concept: we are proud to start our “Smart and Silent ICU” research project with further industry partners and with an official funding from the Innovative Health Initiative (IHI). The project is dedicated to researching innovative approaches to reduce the burden of alarm overloads and thus improve the work environment for healthcare personnel. The incorporation of HL7 FHIR Gateways and Open EHR repositories further demonstrates their commitment to interoperability and data exchange, ultimately benefiting both healthcare professionals and patients. 👉 Leveraging GenAI and copilots to structure unstructured healthcare data within hospitals can be a game-changer. This innovation streamlines workflows, enhances decision-making, and ultimately improves patient outcomes. 👉 Learnings from the US that can be adaptable in Germany, and can transform healthcare massively. Although it's not about technology or processes, but the change we need to drive within our hospital ecosystem. In the middle of presenting SeamlessMD, a health system CMIO asks for my cell phone number. I give it to him. Me: “Just curious, why’d you suddenly ask?” CMIO: “I wanted to know if I could call you any time of day if it was important. Wanted to see if you’d hesitate.” First and only time that’s ever happened. ***** Another time, also while presenting SeamlessMD to a different health system… The CMIO takes out his phone and asks if my CTO and I can pose for a photo. We do. He takes our photo. Asks us to continue the meeting as if nothing strange happened. This was also in the middle of a presentation to 10 folks from his health system. The Left Without Being Seen (LWBS) rate is a key quality metric that reflects the percentage of patients who leave the ED before receiving medical attention. The 24-hour LWBS rate, averaging 3% nationally, along with ED throughput measures such as door-to-doctor time, provide crucial insights into the efficiency of patient evaluation, care initiation and discharge processes, along with revenue impact. A reduction in LWBS rates translates to ED operational efficiency, reduced leakage, improved clinical outcomes, and increased patient satisfaction. In a 2019 study conducted by Joshi et al., an ED achieved a remarkable 27% reduction in LWBS rates through an ED teletriage program. This program, driven by synchronous video visits and streamlined workflows, not only reduced LWBS rates but also demonstrated a decrease in door-to-provider time and other throughput measures. 95% of participating tele-providers reported that the program facilitated effective problem resolution. Rapid advancements in ED teletriage capabilities have further streamlined resource and workflow optimization, leading to significant reductions in LWBS rates and enhanced throughput measures. Building on the success of provider-in-triage (PIT) programs, eVisit's Virtual Triage Center consolidates and streamlines triage processes in a robust queue dashboard, aiding in workflows that streamline ED patient triage, reduction in LWBS rates with a 26% reduction in door-to-doctor/order time. These enhancements extend to improved patient outcomes and safety, clinician satisfaction, and an overall increase in revenue. eVisit’sVirtual Triage Center seamlessly integrates with existing PIT workflows and EHR systems, and is designed to create comprehensive situational awareness across multiple departments. Quick access to interpreters, launching visits into in-room TVs, and other features further amplify the capabilities of this robust virtual triage solution.
