It is referred to as Data Literacy, Data Fluency, Data Acumen and other terms, but these terms all refer to the same thing: the extent to which a person is able to understand, interpret, discuss and use data to derive value from it. This is not in any way a technology problem. It is an enormously damaging, crippling business problem rooted in an individual employee's lack of awareness. It is a disease most organizations suffer from, where employees are unaware of the critical and direct link between their actions to protect, enhance and enrich the value and other economic characteristics of the most valuable asset most organizations own: their data. There is a solution founded in long-term and mindful investment in influencing and shifting organizational human culture to evolve awareness; accountability and habitual behaviour. Exciting News from Our Team! The Journey : As we were deep-diving into a project related to CDO (Chief Data Officer) engagements, our core team had an enlightening moment. We started with a simple goal: visualising a typical day in the life of a CDO. But, as we listened to a side chat with a CDO who returned from a conference feeling underwhelmed, a spark of creativity was ignited. The Insight: Blending the insights from our initial idea and the candid feedback from the conference, we realized there's a gap in how CDOs network and gain value from events they attend. Had a fantastic time at the Data Collective Conference, diving deep into the world of people & data and how we're all navigating this ever-changing landscape. Here are my key takeaways: Collective Insights: The conference provided a platform to share experiences and insights within the data community. It's incredible how much you can learn when you come together with fellow professionals and participate in these round table discussions. Data Governance Matters: Robust data governance practices emerged as a crucial topic. The discussions underscored the importance of accuracy, security, and compliance in successful data management, all the more important when implementing A.I. Talent Retention: Keeping top talent in data is a real challenge. The conference shed light on strategies for talent retention and development, emphasizing the value of investing in your team. Selecting the Right KPIs: In the world of data-driven decision-making, choosing the right Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) is paramount. The conference clarified that pinpointing the most relevant KPIs was a key focus and should be aligned with the Business Goals.
