Malcolm X said it best! 🫡 While there are certainly valid life paths that don't require traditional schooling, there's nothing quite like an education to guarantee your access to the best things life has to offer. 📚 To name just a few: 👉🏾Our relationships with our teachers, particularly in high school and college, often alter the course of our lives. They can expose us to fields of study we never knew were possible and illuminate talents we never knew we had! 👉🏾Education opens the door to career paths such as law, higher education, and medicine. 👉🏾Positive relationships with our educators often serve as valuable professional connections down the road, particularly for those who weren't born into professional connections and generational wealth. 👉🏾College education massively expands our perceptions of what's possible and exposes us to a variety of life paths we may not have had the chance to witness otherwise. Here at Charter Collaborative, we love to champion Historically Black Colleges and Universities both for their academic excellence and how they provide tailored post-grad support to students of color. ❤️ Who helped you learn the value of a good education? Well deserved. People should read your new book, ‘Government Can Deliver’. You share advice with personal vignettes to emphasize your insights. A well organized how to deliver better government services book. This should be recommended reading for anyone working for or with the US Federal government.

Board of Education ruling, we must also confront a brutal reality about our current education system: public schools could still turn Linda Brown away. And it’s perfectly legal. How is that possible? I get asked a lot from prospective clients if they are "good enough" to apply to a top MBA program if they haven't gone to a competitive undergrad university. AND my answer is always the same – do you think these MBA programs (HBS, Stanford, Columbia, Wharton and more) ONLY are interested in people who went to Ivy League schools??? The answer is absolutely NO. And while Harvard Law School isn't Harvard Business School, I'd argue their approach is pretty aligned. Brian Raines thoughtfully explains the continuing challenges faced by those of us who come to the profession from atypical circumstances. He also exemplifies the life-changing power of higher education. As we continue to grapple with the many challenges facing higher ed, it is essential to stay focused on stories like Brian's. I often wonder what the world would be like had we not spent most of human history excluding people from education and limiting their potential based on accidents of birth. While we will never know what we could have created, it is clear to me that destroying a system that in a very short time has created incredible intellectual capital, improved the human condition immensely, and overall made our world a better place is foolish. Yes, higher ed needs to be made better. We need to prioritize student success and support, we need to embrace meaningful intellectual diversity, we need to be better citizens of the spaces we occupy. However, there is no scenario in which those shortcomings warrant the wholesale destruction of the best system of education the world has ever known. Many of us on the inside know this and are fighting to protect one of our country's most valuable assets. Those of you on the outside need to join us in the fight. The world's most creative and successful economy was built on the foundation created by higher education. Destroy the foundation and the structure will crumble.
