A few years ago, one of my team mates was talking to an Agent who was struggling. He didn't know what to do because his business was down. After a review of the numbers, we found that he was actually having the best year he had ever had! He just didn't realize it because it had been very cyclical that year, and he wasn't reporting his numbers routinely. I'd love to say that this situation is the exception, but we see it over and over again with Independent Freight Agents. The understanding of how the business is doing overall is based on a momentary factor. As a Freight Agent, you are a business owner! Sometimes that can get lost because you are partnered with a broker, but this business is yours! You have full control over the growth and success of your business. But.... 👉 You. Have. To. Know. Your. Numbers. 👈 There are a few things that you should always know about your business... 1. What are my operating expenses? 2. What does my production need to be to cover those expenses? 3. What is my load count? 4. What is my net revenue? 5. What is my average margin? This is a high level list of a few things to help you get control of your numbers, and ultimately control of your business. There is more and there is more you can do with the information above. But you must start with the first step..... Now is the time...how did you do in 2023 so that you can come up with a well thought out business plan for 2024?
