I’m sure you have all heard of the #AI video generator #Sora by now, but have you heard about its direct rival, #Kling? Kling is a Chinese AI video generator product that is in its public trial stage, and can generate about 2 minutes of video in 1080p, 30fps quality from pure text prompts along with optional configurations. The AI model was developed by Kuaishou Technology, who also currently own #Kuaishou, the #2 most popular video sharing app behind Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok. Unfortunately right now, you do need an official Chinese phone number to use the app right now, but the fact that the tech is #publicly accessible means plenty of small artists are already playing around with the tool and are already finding unique ways to use the tech for their own benefits. Another episode of "What could possibly go wrong": TikTok introducing the perfect tool for fake news aka realistic AI digital avatars. ----- UPDATE: It only took 5 days. TikTok inadvertently released an internal version of its AI digital avatar tool, allowing users to create unrestricted videos. And users utilized the tool to put Hitler quotes into the avatar mouths. The flaw was quickly addressed after CNN discovered it could generate inappropriate content. This highlights the need for robust safeguards in AI tools. ----- TikTok calls them Symphony Digital Avatars and claims they help brands and creators produce personalized, human-like content. Options include Stock Avatars and Custom Avatars, supporting multiple languages and diverse gestures. I believe that one of the greatest challenges for us will be to distinguish real from fake content. And I think it's only a matter of time until those avatars will be used to spread misinformation.
