Sometimes as a sustainability professional (especially if I’m the only ‘expert’ in the room), it can feel as though everyone is looking at me for an answer, a magical solution. One thing I love about my job is that there isn’t one answer, we have to be innovative to find solutions to solve unique problems across complex, global supply chains. Magical solutions already exist, we just need to uncover them.

This cool Impact-Effort-Method helps me set the right priorities for my sustainability projects (and in life, too). Let me explain how it works: 1️⃣ Collecting all projects that would be cool to do 2️⃣ Sorting them into the Impact-Effort-Matrix regarding their potential Impact (low to very high) and their Effort (little to big) 3️⃣ Everything that falls into the high impact, little effort → DO ASAP 4️⃣ Everything which is high impact, high effort → DECIDE whether to set as a long term project 5️⃣ Everything which is low impact and low effort → Keep as potential task (return to this if you have some time to spare) Forget about 6️⃣ I am using this ever since I learned about it at an innovation workshop at BASF a few years ago.
