The smooth, even and blemish-free texture you see on all plastic products is achieved through a process called extruder degassing. In the extrusion process, plastic is melted by friction and heat to a viscous liquid and then forced through a device to get its final shape. Vacuum is applied before to remove trapped gases, which can create voids or other imperfections in the final product, its also used after for cooling and forming of the final product.Degassing can also help to improve the optical clarity of plastics. Assume here that the comment about 'higher quality' focuses on dimensional aspects, including more control over final weight per foot/gage, etc., not necessarily other critical features of products like physicals and aesthetics. Gear pumps have historically not been used in PVC materials (which comes to mind often when discussing twin screws as below.) They can rely on 'controlled leakage' for lubrication and clearing of bearing areas. Gear pumps can generally benefit from additional evaluation for both inlet and outlet areas, heating and heat sink aspects to overcome differing flows or stagnation areas through them. Slow or no-moving PVC in these areas could degrade, causing a variety of issues, and therefore, the twin screw solution path seems a good one. Properly sized Twin screw extrusion for a variety of materials, including PVC, is a good option. Powder and pellets have their nuances important in ongoing maintenance and training. We've also had success with single screw extrusion with both rigid and flexible PVC materials as well with AC vector drive installations and a well-developed process - all have a place. Just our two cents.

"Thermoplastics" can be heated and shaped multiple times and can be recycled. They flow like mucus and have a slow melting state. Commonly used thermoplastics are PE, PP, PVC, ABS and so on. Thermosetting plastics cure permanently when heated and cooled. The molecular chains form chemical bonds and become a stable structure, so that even when reheated, they cannot reach a molten liquid state.
