Paws 🐾 For Thought If we only ask the questions that we had planned we get seduced into not listening. Great listeners adapt their questions depending on the answers they are getting. Move “off script”, go somewhere unplanned, explore what’s just been said. Great questions start with great listening. How would your people rate your listening skills ? #TheInfiniteGame #TheVIA-Leader

"Ah yes, sorry, what were you saying?".... Active listening is a superpower! But what is active listening? What is it about? Active listening is a skill that allows us to generate effective communication and goes beyond hearing the other person's words, it is paying full attention to what they are telling you, understanding the message, including the emotions, ideas and feelings. ➡ Be present, it's not just looking into someone's eyes and nodding your head up and down, it is being there ➡ Show interest, it can be by asking open-ended questions or somehow paraphrasing what is being communicated to ensure that you understand what is being said to you ➡ Don't respond, and here I mean don't judge, don't give your opinion or advice unless asked, don't compare yourself to this person ("yes, the same thing happened to me" and make this conversation your own), don't interrupt ➡ Be empathetic ➡ Don't think of a response before the other person finishes commenting What other recommendations do you have for those of us trying to improve this skill?

Happiness Scientist - I enhance the wellbeing and performance of leaders and teams using positive psychology | 2x TEDx Speaker | Clients: VISA, Google, TikTok, RBC
First speech of 2024! Same same but different! I remember the first time I spoke on stage. 😰worried about audience would say 🦋butterflies in my stomach 🙊lots of “um”s and “er”s 🧍🏻♀️standing very still 😬fake smile On a scale of 1-10, I was a 2 😣 Because I got the focus all wrong! I thought that speaking was all about ME. But NOW I know… Speaking is about THE AUDIENCE 🤔what they are thinking about 😓what their challenges are 🤞what they want to learn 👍🏻how you can help So now I face the audience and I’m focused on: 😌making it easy to understand and apply 💪addressing their challenges and needs 💜engaging their emotions thru storytelling 💡creating light bulb moments When it’s all about THEM, the speech is almost always a 10 out of 10!! 🤩 Time to rock and roll!! TGIF!! PS: what number (out of 10) would you give your first speech? 😅 share in the comments! #publicspeaking #speaker
