1 in 4 women in the US have to return to work just 2 weeks after giving birth.
The US is one of only 7 countries with no form of paid leave.
One of the highlights of my career so far has been being able to tap into Billion Dollar Boy's resources and strong creator community to support Paid Leave for All x Glamour in their important initiative to #passpaidleave in the US this month. We are donating our time and asked creators to do the same to raise awareness and drive action through signatures for this petition to congress.
It's been so amazing to leverage the storytelling of powerhouses like Katie Sturino, Hannah Bronfman, Eva Chen and seeing them drive over 5k signatures so far. Stay tuned for more.
Given the current childcare crisis in the US - friends and peers - please consider also signing this incredibly important petition! https://lnkd.in/eHabhWSy#paidleaveforall#creators#creatorsdrivingaction#glamour#passpaidleave
You might not believe me when I say what I'm about to say, OK, but this is a fact. One in four women have to return to the workplace 2 weeks after giving birth. What? First of all, if you've never given birth, let me just tell you you're still in diapers, you're still bleeding, you've got milk coming out of your wazoo, and you're dealing with a newborn child. Not to mention, like you then have to be stressed out about returning to work and handing off this newborn child to someone else to care for like that is honestly mind boggling, Mind blowing. Especially considering we live in a society that refuses to let us have. Their own opinions about our body and let alone what we wanna do with our babies and if we want to birth them, But then they say you have to birth them and we're not going to help you one little bit because let me tell you, there is no national paid leave in the United States. the United States is one out of six countries in the entire world. That does not offer paid leave. Women are the backbone of our society, yet we are not set up for any sort of success in this arena. Everybody should be allowed to take time for their family and time for themselves to recover from the traumatic event that is giving birth in America without having to worry about their paycheck or losing their job. There is a nationwide petition going on to pass a bill for national paid leave, hopefully so big that Congress cannot ignore this anymore. There are about 72 million women who are employed in the United States and on average there are about 3.5 million births a year. So to say that this would be impactful is an understatement.
