Why yes, I will most definitely be subscribing to the Hallmark+ streaming service...for the months of November and December. But what happens to their business in January when the avid holiday movie viewers like me cancel our subscriptions? So interesting to see Hallmark bundling exclusive benefits and rewards like monthly $5 Hallmark Gold Crown Store coupons, unlimited e-cards and surprise gifts (?) into the membership. The question now is whether this is enough "always-on" value to retain a significant number of subscribers year-round. I'll be curious to see if this launch in September makes the holiday viewing season begin even earlier this year. The Pumpkin Spice Latte effect!

I have a different perspective—why not embrace targeting transactional viewers instead of trying to secure year-long subscribers? Personally, I subscribed to a few services just to watch the Euros and Copa America, and I plan to cancel once the events are over. With the rise in bundling, it seems the market will either become dominated by a few winners or shift towards an à la carte model. In such a scenario, focusing on niche markets could present significant opportunities.

Some of the holiday releases from Hallmark were streaming on Paramount+ last year, so that saved me from a Hallmark only subscription. However, they had a whole month of Jane Austen themed releases earlier this year that I watched from someone else's house where they use Philo for $28/month to see all of the Hallmark programming and all of the Lifetime and Food Network programming. So if someone mostly watches the 70+ channels they offer, that might be a great solution for someone who wants Hallmark at Christmas and other things the rest of the year.

I both complain about the Hallmark holiday movies having simplistic predictable plots AND hypocritically tune into them as soon as I get a twinkle of the holiday spirit and need something on while I am wrapping presents or baking.

Yup this question right here: But what happens to their business in January when the avid holiday movie viewers like me cancel our subscriptions?

Callie Schweitzer good conversation below, but I couldn’t get past the picture that made me think you were now starring in Hallmark movies. 😀

Callie, you have identified a very important variable relating to "churn." There are many reasons why customers churn on their streaming services and this is one of the main ones.

Now I feel like I should subscribe too so we can watch and discuss every movie 😂

Iti's worth it, if only for the winterwear being modeled throughout... new scarves and gloves and coats!
