This year, we welcomed 30.000 visitors to #GoogleCloudNext, making it the largest NEXT ever! Yes, we had a ton (218!) of new product announcements but most importantly, we showcased incredible customer momentum! The stock price increased by 2.22% in the pre-market trading on November 22, 2023, reaching $378.05. Microsoft's stock performance has been impressive in the past year, as it has grown by 68.5% from its 52-week low of $219.35 on November 23, 2022. The company has a market capitalization of $2.747 trillion, making it one of the most valuable companies in the world. TL;DR - I'm back at Microsoft! I started my career at Microsoft way back during the "Internet Tidal Wave". And now, with an aggressive "new" MSFT grabbing pole position for the Enterprise AI + Cloud wave, it's a great time to come back.  I'm leading the Azure AI Search product team and I couldn't be more excited. As Enterprise LLMs, agents & copilots proliferate, strategic leverage quickly goes beyond the "best model" to the "best activation" of the reams of private data lurking within orgs.  Microsoft, of course, stewards more than its fair share of these assets and Search, RAG, KGs & more will play a pivotal, long term, role unlocking them. A big part of any gig is the people and Microsoft's much heralded cultural transformation ain't no joke. Across many conversations, the firm's clear, ambitious, top-down vision combined with energetic, bottoms-up, innovation rings clear. I look forward rolling up the sleeves with my new colleagues (Pablo Castro, Brian Smith, Matthew Gotteiner, Gia Mondragon, Eric Boyd, Dan Q. , Erin Lau, Joel Burgei, Kevin Scott, Corom Thompson, Mike Carter, Farzad Sunavala, Anna Bai, Allison Sparrow, Vaibhav Choubey...) I love the way in which Microsoft's results are presented below. A huge difference from the boring Excel tables with just the numbers pasted on a PPT and a "figure out yourself" comments section. And the best... very easy to visually identify sources of revenue and centers of cost so you get the clear idea on what happened before and where are they heading to. Putting that aside, some reflections: 1) 34% of net profit is really healthy. I hardly can imagine an investment in which I can get that return from my own money in one year with reasonable risk exposure. 2) General public still thinks that Microsoft is the old Windows and Office company, and all the PC related stuff. That is now less than 25% of their business and the least profitable one btw. 3) The biggest portion of the business now is Cloud and AI. They walked the talk that started few years ago and are being really successful delivering the promise. And I think this is just a start for them. Way to go Microsoft.
