On this day in 1933, the 21st Amendment to the Constitution was ratified, ending the era of Prohibition. 📜 In honor of that day (and since our Blind Tiger Spirit-Free Cocktails brand is all about Prohibition) below are some interesting facts about that historic moment: 1️⃣ It was never illegal to drink during Prohibition. 🍷 The 18th Amendment and Volstead Act focused on production and sale, not consumption. 2️⃣ The 21st Amendment wasn't a unanimous decision. 🗳️ North and South Carolina initially rejected it, and eight states didn't even vote. 3️⃣ Mississippi held onto Prohibition laws until 1966! 🤯 In 2004, half of its counties were still dry. 4️⃣ The Cullen-Harrison Act allowed for low-alcohol beer and wine ten months before the 21st Amendment, and FDR enjoyed a ceremonial case of beer from Budweiser Clydesdales. 🍺 Cheers to the Roaring 20s! 🥂 #NationalRepealDay #Roaring20s #Prohibition #BlindTigerIsWhatSpeakeasiesWereCalled

Doug Ford not sure how you are for the working class if you are willing to break contracts! I may not be a beer consumer but I also do not understand your wasting my tax dollars on this??? There are plenty of locations to access alcohol! Do we need to perpetuate more social issues through easier access?? DC Update: New Shutdown Showdown Congress is back, fighting again while a possible government shutdown looms in just a week. Last year was the least productive legislative session since 1931 (92 years), but this year is likely to break a new record, given the Congressional dysfunction exacerbated by the upcoming election. Here, we examine the impact on suppliers, taxpayers and local communities, as well as the systemic changes the industry is calling for from the Federal Government to assist small breweries through this challenging time.

I work in beverage applications, so this year I'm going to go through some national beverage holidays, enjoy! January 16th is Prohibition Remembrance Day: For some PRE-history: 1657, The general court of Massachusetts bans the sale of alcohol to Native Americans and during the1800s, the first attempt to ban alcohol by Protestants was made. 1918, Congress enforces the Wartime Prohibition Act, banning alcohol above 1.28%. Prohibition in the United States was a nationwide constitutional ban on the production, importation, transportation, and sale of alcoholic beverages from 1920 to 1933. Then "finally" in 1933 the 21st amendment lifted the alcohol ban by overruling the 18th amendment. -         FUNFACT: Prohibition cost the federal government about $11 billion in taxes, and it took over $300 million to legalize the bill.  Today there is a decrease in alcohol consumption, for health and personal choices: Low - No ABV

📢It's important to remember that Britain's beer duty is now the 2nd highest in Europe, having overtaken Ireland in 2023. 🇩🇪You pay 12x more tax on a pint than they do in Germany. 🍻Just a 5% cut in beer duty in March's Budget would create 13,000 jobs for our economy, meaning this is an investment the Government would take a significant return on. The Government must act to support our pubs and brewers and stimulate growth and investment through lowering Britain's cripplingly high Beer Duty rate.

If a bottle of wine shared among friends is your go-to escape from a politics, it's about to get a little more expensive (in the UK). At stake in the #July4 #snapelection #ukelection is, among other things, how much a bottle of wine will be taxed. Soon enough there could be 30 different tax rates depending on the bottle's ABV.  August’s duty increases were the highest for almost 50 years – we saw a 10% increase to spirits duty. Not only has this been bad for consumers, but it’s also been bad for businesses who have lost sales and bad for the Government because duty receipts are down. It needn’t be like this! Recent history shows that cutting or freezing duty rates can increase revenue to the Exchequer – so a cut can be a win for the Government, businesses and cash-strapped consumers. #englishwhisky 🥃 https://lnkd.in/e9Fs6RF9
