They make bad hiring decisions because of this. We would hire someone based on an idea. We got very excited by someone because they spoke very well and fed into the idea. But it wasn't necessarily what the business needed." So, we're hiring for a Head of Content. Actually, our first hire outside of the founders & here's what I've learned so far: I can't compete with "big company" salaries & benefits. So here's how I'm combatting that: → Equity (duh) → Being authentic & letting candidates know exactly what they're getting into → Being VERY transparent → Setting expectations that are realistic And from a benefits standpoint, we're trying to get creative: → $250 Birthday stipend. I’ve been hiring a live-in editor for a creator. It’s insane. He is SO much more meticulous about this hire compared to hiring a remote editor or in office editor. When you’re hiring someone to live with you, you don’t just care about: - skills - experience - portfolio You also care about: - character - values - habits It highlights to me that there is more to a person than just their skill. Character matters too and I overlooked this myself until I was hiring people. So if you’re job hunting, don’t just focus on building your CV. Build your character too.
