Site, so she was put back on the Theater bed and Hysterectomy was done for her because it was noticed that she has Cervical Cancer. So let talk about HYSTERECTOMY Hysterectomy is a surgery to remove the uterus and sometimes other parts of the female reproductive system. It may be done for various reasons, such as cancer, fibroids, or pain. There are different types of hysterectomy, depending on what parts are removed and how the surgery is done. The main types are subtotal, total, TAHBSO (Total Abdominal Hysterectomy with Bilateral Salpingo-Oophorectomy), and radical hysterectomy. The main methods are abdominal, vaginal, laparoscopic, and LAVH (Laparoscopically Assited Vaginal Hysterectomy). As a nurse, you need to : -Provide physical and emotional care to the woman before, during, and after the surgery. -You need to monitor her vital signs, pain, wound, and complications. -You need to give her medications, comfort measures, and education. NEEDLE GAUGES & THEIR FUNCTIONS. #snsdesignthinking #snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers 18 GAUGE Used for trauma, surgery, viscous solutions or blood transfusions; similar to 16G or 20G. 16 GAUGE Used for large fluid volume or rapid infusion in ER, ICU, surgical, or trauma settings. It's incredibly similar to the 14 gauge, just with a lower flow rate! 20 GAUGE Your go-to size for the standard adult/older pediatric patient. This is ideal for routine IV infusions, medication administration, CT scans w/ contrast dye, and can tolerate blood infusion (but we'd prefer an 18G). 22 GAUGE Good for small, fragile veins patients aren't critical ill or won't need an IV for very long (less 24 GAUGE Used for administering fluids during surgery and IV infusion on pediatrics and neonates. Insertion is less painful due to its small size. Almost never used in adult patients!

I am proud to share that as a member of the APSA Outcomes and Evidence-based Practice Committee, we have published a significant systematic review and evidence-based guideline in the Journal of Pediatric Surgery! Title: Classification and Surgical Management of Anorectal Malformations: A Systematic Review and Evidence-based Guideline from the APSA Outcomes and Evidence-based Practice Committee 🔍 Highlights: • Treatment of neonates with anorectal malformations (ARMs) is challenging due to variability in definitions, surgical approaches, and outcomes. • Our review summarizes existing evidence, identifies treatment controversies, and provides guidelines for perioperative care. • We reviewed 10,843 publications, with 90 included in our final recommendations. • Both loop and divided colostomies are viable options, though loop colostomies have higher prolapse rates. • No significant differences in outcomes between early and late repair groups. • Clear and uniform definitions are essential for future comparisons and recommendations. 📈 Conclusion: Evidence-based best practices for ARMs are still lacking in many areas. Multi-institutional registries and further prospective studies are crucial to improve care and develop consensus guidelines for this complex patient population. I'm proud to share our latest systematic review published in the Journal of Pediatric Surgery on the management and outcomes of pediatric lymphatic malformations (LMs)! Title: Management and Outcomes of Pediatric Lymphatic Malformations: A Systematic Review From the APSA Outcomes and Evidence-Based Practice Committee 🔍 Highlights: • This comprehensive review addresses the significant variation in management strategies for lymphatic malformations (LMs) in children. • We reviewed 9326 abstracts, with 600 selected for full review and 202 utilized for data extraction. • Key findings show that medical therapy, such as sirolimus, can be used alongside percutaneous treatments or surgery for extensive LMs. • Sclerotherapy achieves partial or complete response in over 90% of patients, particularly effective for macrocystic lesions. • Surgery remains a viable option depending on the size, extent, and location of the malformation. • A multidisciplinary approach is recommended for determining the optimal individualized treatment for each patient. 📈 Conclusion: Evidence supporting best practices for LM management is of moderate quality. Many patients benefit from multi-modal treatment tailored to the extent and type of their LM, emphasizing the need for a multidisciplinary approach. In the current issue of The Communicator (our quarterly newsletter to members), Malignant Hyperthermia experts discuss the clinical incidence of MH in children following the loss of a newborn due to suspected MH. The article underscores the need for more research into the clinical incidence of Malignant Hyperthermia in children. The incidence currently stands at 1 in 30,000 for the cause of complications in pediatric surgery, while newborns had been previously thought to have some protection from MH found in their immaturity. What you need to know about PONV ... Post-operative nausea and vomiting is a common complication experienced by patients following surgery. PONV can lead to more serious complications including dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, increased pain or discomfort, delayed discharge and readmission. Assessment of risk factors, modification of anaesthesia and post-operative PONV management plan are essential to improve patient comfort and reduce the duration of hospital stay.
