#TeamCHS recently participated in the Fetal Growth Restriction (FGR) Education Workshop, it was a vital step in the Safer Baby Bundle Project. This initiative by @StillbirthCRE, aiming to reduce third-trimester stillbirth by 20% within the ACT, relies on collaboration and knowledge-sharing among our dedicated health care professionals. Midwives and obstetric staff from Canberra Hospital and North Canberra Hospital participated in the workshop, we spoke with Katherine a project officer for the workshop. ‘The Safer Baby Bundle Project is a national initiative addressing the critical gaps in fetal care. Our workshop is an essential part of this endeavour, aiming to standardise practices and improve outcomes for singleton pregnancies affected by FGR.’ ‘The focus on modifiable risk factors such as smoking cessation, sleeping positions during pregnancy, and awareness of decreased fetal movements underscores our commitment to proactive care and prevention.’ ‘While challenges persist, particularly in data accessibility, our dedication remains. Our recent workshop evaluation reflected high levels of relevance and commitment to practice change among clinicians.’ Following the conclusion of the workshop, attendees indicated their confidence had increased in all the areas of FGR management and detection. Stay tuned for more updates on our journey towards safer pregnancies and happier families! Pharmacists are more than just attendants who dispense drugs at hospitals or local pharmacies. They are healthcare professionals with specialized expertise in medications. They understand how drugs work, how to use them safely, and how to manage side effects. Pharmacists provide valuable advice on the best medications for various health conditions, ensure prescriptions are filled accurately, and offer guidance on the proper use of medicines. They also play a crucial role in enhancing maternal health by increasing access to care, especially in rural and underserved communities, and ensuring maternal well-being during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. Join us on Sunday, July 21, at 1 PM on Google Meet as Dr. Abdulgafar Abdulsalam shares his extensive knowledge on the topic: "The Role of Drugs in Maternity Healthcare." Pregnancy complications and travel time to central hospitals are a threat to maternal and newborn healthcare in low-resource countries. The first feasibility study on OdonDevice is now underway in St.Luke Hospital, Wolisso, Ethiopia, thanks to a collaboration between Medici con l'Africa Cuamm/ Doctors with Africa CUAMM, FID and the Besançon Regional University Hospital Center. Odon is a new cutting-edge device for assisted birth, particularly suitable for introduction in low-resource countries where a lack of qualified personnel undermines maternal healthcare. The device may, in fact, replace forceps and ventouses and become an alternative to the cesarean section in case of prolonged labour. The initiative could lead to the improvement of healthcare quality standards in maternal and child health.

🕸️ Ever wondered about the intricate structure that powers the European Standards of Care for Newborn Health (ESCNH)? These topics span pregnancy, childbirth, the initial weeks and months, and extended care in later years. They consider the roles of medical staff and families in neonatal care and delve into ethical decision-making and how to conduct future research in this crucial field. What is behind this structured approach? Each topic is handled by 𝐚 𝐝𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐓𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐜 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩, meticulously developing and reviewing individual standards. "Risk-appropriate care" refers to providing healthcare services that match the level of risk associated with a pregnant person's or infant's medical condition or situation. This approach ensures that individuals receive the most suitable level of care based on their health status, medical needs, and any potential complications. For pregnant people, risk-appropriate care involves assessing health status and any potential risks associated with their pregnancy. This assessment helps determine the level of care needed, which can range from routine prenatal care for low-risk pregnancies to specialized care for high-risk pregnancies, such as those with pre-existing medical conditions or complications. ASTHO Senior Analyst Lexa Giragosian, MPH, CHES explores benefits of risk-appropriate care from the patient, provider, and state health agency perspective in two new resources: ▪ To learn how enhancing consumer awareness improves access to risk-appropriate care: https://lnkd.in/etq9M-Ku. ▪ To learn how states can implement coordinated care systems based on levels of maternal care to support risk-appropriate care access: https://lnkd.in/edVZtGqG. #MaternalHealth #HealthEquity #RiskAppropriateCare #CoordinatedCare

As demonstrated below, we present a study addressing the later consequences of GDM. Or actually, it is the rather immediate consequences observed after a GDM diagnosis. Our results demonstrate that within 12 months postpartum, approximately 1 in 5 women diagnosed with GDM in their pregnancies do develop pre-diabetes or diabetes. It is of the utmost importance that this is addressed, and not only by obstetricians and endocrinologist. We already know that pregnancy complications are harbingers of later health challenges. Maybe we should start addressing the well-known consequences of pregnancy complications to a higher degree? I vote for prophylaxis rather than treatment. Therefore, I would suggest The Pregnancy Follow-Up Clinic. Here midwives, nurses, dieticians, and physicians could be involved in addressing an individual’s future health after a pregnancy complication. I guess there’s a lot to win. Stillbirth Amid advances in obstetric care, stillbirth rates remain largely unchanged in recent years, with early and late stillbirth seeing the least progress. Despite advances in obstetric care, stillbirth affects a heart breaking number of families globally every year. A meta-analysis in PLoS Medicine reports a rising risk of stillbirth in later pregnancy, making late and term stillbirth an area of concern for clinicians and patients. Families in these situations find themselves facing distressing questions and decisions they weren't necessarily prepared for. How to carefully Navigating a Late Stillbirth with Your Patient? NHS England has warned of a #safety #risk with a #maternity information #system used by a number of hospital trusts - while saying there is no evidence of harm so far, it has published a National Patient Safety Alert relating to technical issues with the #Euroking system, provided by Magentus Software, identifying three specific issues: that certain information recorded during a patient contact can overwrite some that was previously recorded in the pregnancy record; that certain information relevant to a specific pregnancy event can overwrite data across an entire patient record; and that some pregnancy-level #data can prepopulate into new pregnancy records, which can mean clinicians could see incorrect information. #NationalPatientSafetyAlert https://lnkd.in/eVsH2AQi
