Insightful discussions this morning at the SPE Europe Energy Conference in Turin, it's clear that the journey to a low-carbon future requires innovation and collaboration. Low-carbon hydrogen can potentially solve one of the key challenges of the energy transition: offering a promising solution to reduce emissions in hard-to-abate industries. The path forward is multifaceted, involving: 1) **Policy Support**: Implementing policies that stimulate demand for low-carbon hydrogen is vital. These policies will not only kickstart the market but also enhance the economic viability of hydrogen-based projects. 2) **Technological Advancements**: Scaling up technology is non-negotiable. We need a suite of large-scale, cost-effective solutions to make low-carbon hydrogen a reality for industrial emission reduction. 3) **Industry Collaboration**: Success hinges on the synergy between various stakeholders in the hydrogen value chain. From production to end-use, a concerted effort is necessary to streamline processes and optimize results. Moreover, the urgency to de-risk and scale up technologies cannot be overstated. The coming years are pivotal in determining the most suitable technologies for different applications, considering technical, commercial, and regulatory perspectives. As we navigate this transition, let's remain committed to fostering an environment where low-carbon hydrogen can thrive, unlocking its full potential for a sustainable future. Thanks to my fellow panellists for the good discussion Piero Ercoli, Cristina Maggi, Andrea Pisano and to Mario Marchionna for moderating. #weareslb #EnergyTransition #LowCarbonHydrogen #SPEEnergyConference #Innovation #Collaboration #Sustainability

How Hydrogen and Green Technologies Are Revolutionizing Our World Hydrogen is becoming a key player in our quest for a sustainable future. At Siemens Energy in Berlin, simulations show that hydrogen could meet the energy needs of a modern industrial society. This technology is important, even though the necessary industrial infrastructure is still being developed. Electrolyzers: The Building Blocks Electrolyzers perform electrolysis and can be easily added to existing systems. Anne-Laure de Chammard from Siemens Energy highlights that these systems can be scaled up or down depending on the need, from small industrial sites to large hydrogen production facilities. Three Steps to a Green Future To move towards greener energy, three main strategies are essential: 1. Energy Efficiency: Reducing energy consumption by recycling energy wherever possible. 2. Electrification: Using electricity to decarbonize as much as possible. 3. Hydrogen and Green Molecules: Storing and reusing energy when electrification is not enough. Hydrogen can also be combined with CO2 to create new, sustainable fuels for heavy industries. Global Innovations in Green Technology Researchers like Professor Bernd Rech at the Helmholtz Center in Berlin are working on improving energy conversion and storage. Projects are using solar energy to produce hydrogen and cleaner fuels. Sonya Calnan’s team, in collaboration with the University of Cape Town, is developing solar-powered hydrogen systems to provide clean cooking fuels in areas without electricity. The Role of Batteries Batteries are crucial for storing energy. Professor Madhavi Srinivasan at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore is working on recycling lithium-ion batteries and other electronic waste. By extracting valuable elements from old batteries, her research supports a circular economy, reducing the need for new materials. Mimicking Nature: Artificial Photosynthesis Professor Harry Atwater at Caltech is working on artificial photosynthesis, a process that mimics how plants turn sunlight into energy. By using special materials to create artificial leaves, researchers aim to produce hydrogen efficiently, potentially making it the cheapest fuel available. With advancements in technology and a commitment to sustainability, the future of energy looks promising. Hydrogen and green technologies are set to play a major role in transforming our world for the better. #GreenEnergy #Hydrogen #SustainableFuture #Electrolysis #EnergyEfficiency #RenewableEnergy #CircularEconomy #ArtificialPhotosynthesis #CleanTechnology #EnergyStorage #SolarEnergy #InnovativeResearch #ClimateAction #GreenTech #FutureOfEnergy

🚀 Exciting News in Clean Technology Manufacturing! 🚀 I’m thrilled to share the release of the latest International Energy Agency (IEA) report, "Advancing Clean Technology Manufacturing." I had the privilege of peer reviewing this insightful document, which shines a spotlight on the manufacturing sector’s pivotal role in driving the clean energy transition. 🔑 Key Highlights: 1️⃣ Economic Impact: In 2023, clean technology manufacturing accounted for 0.7% of global investment, surpassing traditional industries like steel, and drove 4% of global GDP growth. This underscores the sector's growing influence on the global economy. 2️⃣ Investment Surge: Investment in clean technology manufacturing reached USD 200 billion in 2023, marking a 70% increase from 2022. This surge was led by solar PV and battery manufacturing, which together accounted for over 90% of the total investments. 3️⃣ Geographic Insights: While China remains the leader, accounting for three-quarters of global investments, the US and Europe are rapidly catching up, particularly in battery manufacturing, where investments in these regions more than tripled. 4️⃣ Future Prospects: Current and committed projects are on track to exceed global solar PV deployment needs and meet 55% of battery cell requirements for 2030 under the IEA's Net Zero Emissions by 2050 Scenario. This demonstrates significant progress towards meeting future clean energy demands. 5️⃣ Hydrogen and Electrolysers: Investments in hydrogen production and electrolyser technology are critical for achieving net-zero targets. The report highlights the importance of these technologies in providing a reliable and flexible energy source, especially as renewable energy sources like wind and solar expand. 🌍 This report provides crucial insights and strategies for policymakers to enhance industrial strategies and support clean energy transitions globally. It highlights the importance of focusing on strategic investments, supporting innovation and workforce development, and enhancing resilience through international collaboration. 📄 For a deeper dive into the findings and strategic recommendations, check out the full report here: https://lnkd.in/ddMmZ-sA Great job IEA team, José Miguel Bermúdez Menéndez and Francesco Pavan! #CleanEnergy #Technology #Innovation #Sustainability #Manufacturing #EnergyTransition #Hydrogen #Electrolysers #IEA #netzero #p2x #ptx

⚡ “If we could get the ceramic electrolysis cells into the power-to-x technology at enough sites around the world, their efficiency could save 25% of all the electricity needed to produce the same amount of green fuel and save up to about 20% of the price of hydrogen“. With these words, Henrik Lund Frandsen, professor of the Department of Electrochemical Energy Conversion and Storage at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) describes the innovation developed by researcher Morten Phan Klitkou and colleagues. In the laboratories of the Danish university, electrolysis technologies have long been at the center of a dense activity of research and industrial collaboration. Last year, Topsoe started the construction of the world’s first large-scale factory for the production of high-temperature electrolysis cells, making use of the progress made together with DTU Energy. #SENnews #environmnent #globalwarming #greeneconomy #solar #eolic #energy #greenenergy #solarenergy #windenergy #sustainable #sustainabledevelopment
