We're pleased to see the California Senate Bill 1036, the Voluntary Carbon Offsets: Business Regulation Act, has been paused.    ➡️  SB 1036 sought to make it unlawful for a person to sell, issue, market, certify, verify, or maintain, a voluntary carbon credit if the person should know that the GHG reductions or removal enhancements of the related project are unlikely to be quantifiable, real, and additional.   ➡️  Truthful, substantiated, and transparent claims based on carbon credits are vital to protect consumers and the climate. However, this bill was excess, and the significant risks would have heavily deterred companies with genuine intentions from engaging in the market, massively reducing funding for critical climate projects.    At Carbonplace, we support high-integrity voluntary #CarbonMarkets and recognise effective regulations and standards are essential for the market to realise its full potential in channelling finance at scale to combat #ClimateChange.    Fortunately, necessary regulations are already in development and with an estimated annual requirement of USD 6.2 trillion from 2023 to 2030 to achieve global #NetZero, it's vital we continue to encourage participation in all high-integrity mechanisms.    We look forward to increasingly collaborating with players across the market to scale the supply and delivery of high-quality, robust carbon credits. Together, we can drive meaningful #ClimateAction. 🌎 --- The official #VCM Rankings 2024 voting page is now open! We would be honoured to receive your support for Carbonplace in the "Best Market Innovation" category.
