💪 What a strong incentive to address challenges in the voluntary carbon market! The market could double participants if it continues to tackle issues of transparency, risk and recognition. In a new survey, We Mean Business Coalition, ICE and Bain & Company reveal the attitudes of 180 companies to the VCM. 🌱 The survey is clear: the VCM can accelerate corporate spending on climate priorities that are otherwise underfunded. One such area is nature, where there remains a huge, $700 billion gap between the funds required to conserve and restore ecosystems and the amount currently spent. More than 70 percent of companies purchasing credits said it allows them to take additional action, beyond what they would do if not buying carbon credits. This is in line with findings released by Ecosystem Marketplace in 2023. Its study revealed that the companies engaging with the voluntary carbon markets were decarbonising at double the pace as those who were not. SBTI and Carbon offsets finally meet their way. The Science Based Targets initiative recently introduced the Beyond Value Chain Mitigation (BVCM) framework through two detailed whitepapers. Overall, BVCM represents a significant advancement in climate action, providing companies with a roadmap to contribute meaningfully to climate solutions. This London Climate Action Week, we are excited to announce the launch of a new guide designed to help companies and financial institutions invest in high-integrity Natural Climate Solutions (NCS). The ERM Sustainability Institute, WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development, Natural Climate Solutions Alliance (NCSA), and Forest Investor Club (FIC) have developed this report to highlight the climate, financial, environmental, and social benefits of NCS projects and help encourage the flow of private capital into these solutions. The guide provides the most comprehensive guidance to date and outlines the key stages of the NCS investment process, including how to identify high-integrity NCS projects, conduct thorough due diligence, and implement effective investment strategies, all with the goal of de-mystifying and simplifying the NCS investment process. In addition to carbon, the guide explains the wider environmental, financial, social, and reputational benefits of NCS investments and how an NCS strategy can be aligned with the individual investor’s business case. The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has issued a Call for Evidence on the Effectiveness of the Use of Environmental Attribute Certificates in Corporate Climate Targets. The deadline to submit is November 24 to respond to the call for evidence. https://lnkd.in/ddPGMc9D SBTi states that their aim in this call for evidence is to “help the corporate climate action ecosystem understand whether different instruments can credibly drive decarbonization and support corporate emission reduction claims.” Clean Energy Buyers Institute has compiled a list of resources (https://lnkd.in/e32y8uga) that CEBA is using in their submission.
