We need your help! Texas CASA and the CASA network rely on federal funding from the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) to support our work + the services offered to children and families across the state. But less VOCA funding has been available to states and deposits into the Crime Victims Fund (CVF) — which funds VOCA — have decreased dramatically. We worked hard with other stakeholders during the 88th Legislative Session to secure supplementary funding, but we need your extra support. There is a national VOCA letter circulating asking that Congress appropriate additional federal funds for VOCA without taking funds away from other important programs. One important step for VOCA stability! CALL your House rep and ask them to sign on now! Never count CACs out. Despite the frustrating news last month on FY24 funding levels for Children's Advocacy Centers and many types of victim service agencies, after the noise we collectively made for VOCA we are getting another critical shot. But, we need your help to bring this new bill to the floor and take a crucial step toward VOCA funding stability for years to come. Our champions in the House, Reps. Ann Wagner (MO), Nathaniel Moran (TX), Debbie Dingell (MI), Stephanie Bice (OK), and Jim Costa (CA) have introduced the Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act. The signature of every House Member matters to get House leadership to call a vote on this important bill. Call, email, and call again: ask your one US Representative to sign on and become a House Co-Sponsor of the Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act! (This action alert is for the House only! Last year saw a record 16,938 potential victims of slavery identified in the UK, including victims of trafficking from more than 120 countries. The real number is likely to be much higher. We are one of the UK's largest providers of survivor services, with ten safehouses and six outreach hubs, staffed round the clock by specialist staff, working with more than 600 men, women and dependent children each year. We also run Preventive work both in the UK and in source countries to stop trafficking at source and Pursue work which helps survivors to engage with police and within the legal system to seek justice and to secure convictions against their perpetrators. You will also be inundated with calls from from community non profits from other mass shootings offering their “help”.
