2024: My Year of Growth, Impact, and Connection 🎉 The confetti has settled, and the echoes of "Happy New Year!" are gradually lifting. Now, it's time to set our sights on the horizon and chart the course for an incredible 2024. 🎯 For me, this year is all about intentional growth, impactful action, and fostering meaningful connections. For me, Growth means pushing myself beyond my comfort zone, mastering new skills, and becoming a stronger leader. I'm excited to dive into new challenges and roles. 👍 Impact is my North Star. Change. Over the past 30 years or so, I’ve come to learn a lot about change. Experiencing it. Managing it. Designing it. Leading it. As we approach the New Year (btw how did that happen SO quickly?!), I am once again excited to be embarking on a period of rest, reflection, resetting, and refocusing. Sure, I do this every year. And I encourage you to do the same. In larger or smaller degrees, depending on the situation. For me, after leading a number of organizational changes at a fabulous organization, I’m ready to step into the New Year with a different focus. More to come on that. But first, before the refocusing, let’s all take a few weeks to… Rest. Reflect. Reset. And then, refocus. Change comes in many forms. You get to choose whether to resist it or welcome it. With self-reflection and awareness, a clear mind and rested body, we get to use change as an opportunity. After a 30-year career designing and leading change, I still love it. Reflecting on 2023 as the year comes to a close, it's a blend of gratitude and resilience. The journey began with a challenging chapter – a car accident in March that left me hesitant to get behind the wheel again. Nights were tough, filled with nightmares, tears and a sense of hopelessness. My incredible colleagues, especially the wonderful women in our team, became more than coworkers; they became a vital support system, turning our workplace into a haven of understanding and empathy. Thanks Mashadi Letwaba for your leadership. The year unfolded unexpectedly, with leadership roles in projects I once thought were beyond my reach. Witnessing significant growth in client projects and EVP programmes added a layer of accomplishment to the journey. Balancing studies, work and navigating the complexities of being there for my teenager sister presented formidable challenges. Gratitude fills me for the insightful leadership sessions I had with Romy Heldsinger propelling my career to new heights. Beyond the professional landscape, 2023 brought meaningful connections and most importantly, a spiritual connection with myself – a calming force in the chaos. As I bid farewell to 2023, I carry not only memories of challenges and triumphs but also deep gratitude for the growth, connections and inner strength that defined this chapter. Movement. Back in January this year, I shared this - my word for 2023. Making a positive impact through the work I do is super important to me and this year has been all about movement to enable this. ➡️ Physical and emotional health, wellbeing and flow in movement. ➡️ Creating a movement in leadership to inspire, enable and mobilise others to make a positive impact. ➡️ Moving forward by pursuing my strategic goals and aspirations. So in the spirit of practising what I preach (well hopefully not actually preaching, but you know what I mean), I’ve been reflecting on my movement and impact this year. In listening to the leaders around me, I’ve gained valuable insights to how I can best serve and support them and you – purpose-led leaders who are looking for a trusted partner to invest in developing themselves and their people so they can enhance connection, gain clarity in direction, and build the cohesion needed for leadership momentum and strategic impact. I’m grateful to have collaborated with some amazing purpose-led CEOs and Executive Leaders to develop their leadership and create a ripple effect through the people and culture of their organisations. My impact has spanned Education, Agriculture, Science, Technology, Aged Care, Not For Profit and Industry Associations. It’s been fun, positively challenging and motivating to learn and grow as I’ve partnered with others to do the same. And all this has been possible because I have prioritised leading myself – caring for my own physical and emotional health is my unwavering #1 priority and has enabled me to achieve the movement I aspired to. Through it all, the brilliance of hitting 'pause' has never been more evident. In those moments of stillness, clarity and connection blossomed, providing invaluable soul-connected insights and grounding. 🧠 A gentle reminder from science: Our brains aren't built for non-stop hustle. The 'default mode' – our brain's way of rejuvenating through breaks, pauses, and daydreams – is vital for cognitive and creative rejuvenation. Rest isn't just a physical need; it's a mental and emotional reset, essential for leading with vigor and vision. 🔚 As we bid farewell to 2023 and step into 2024, let's honor this transition. It's more than just flipping a calendar page; it's a checkpoint in life. I’ve been spending the last couple of days reflecting on this year and damn do I feel proud and grateful. Proud of how far I’ve come and grateful for the work that I get to do. Helping leaders better understand how they can access and unlock an untapped capacity within themselves and their teams makes my heart come alive. Why? Because unlocking this capacity changes your life—personally and professionally. Not only does it create the bandwidth that we need to sustain the high performance demanded of us, but it also builds the inner foundation needed to hold the weight of the success that we work so hard to achieve. Far too many of us 🙋🏻♂️ have learned the hard way that the weight of success on a fractured heart only increases the fracture. Yes, I care about the huge sales deal that you just closed or the promotion that you just landed, but I care more about you having the bandwidth in your life to go home after it’s all done and be wildly present with the people that you love. And to do this well, we need capacity. But, that’s not all. Yes, creating more capacity drives greater engagement, performance and more sustainable success, but that’s not what lights me up about this work. What lights me up is that when we commit to the process and say yes to the inner aspects of growth that unlock the untapped capacity within each of us, we start the process of reclaiming the parts of ourselves that we’ve sacrificed on the altar of ‘getting by.’ And as we learn how to reclaim these parts of ourselves, we restore our sense of wholeness. And if you ask me, right now what we need arguably more than ever before are whole leaders—leaders who stay connected to their center, lead from a place of groundedness, and most importantly—serve from their overflow. Here's a question for you as you close out this year and move into 2024. In a culture that screams bigger, faster, stronger, what would it look like to go deeper?
