Emotional Abuse – Three Case Studies   I begin with an interesting couple of case studies of women who were emotionally and physically abused by their partners. There are two things to take away from these cases: The first is that their partners were really nice guys to start with – bot to themselves and others. The second is that the abuse only really started when they got pregnant. Were their partners then confident that they could not leave the relationship? As we will see in other cases, this is quite a common pattern     https://lnkd.in/eSX92FTu The second case is of a woman ‘Abi’ who did not realise she was in an abusive relationship https://lnkd.in/e6SUgpth Perhaps the best explanation for this is that people believe that an abusive relationship is one in which the perpetrator is abusive all the time. The fact that Abi’s partner was nice to her some of the time may have made her believe that this is what ‘normal relationships’ are like. ❌ Lateral Violence ❌ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples face many challenges and some of the divisive and damaging harms come from within our own communities, our own mob. This internal violence appears when people or a community feel oppressed, displaced, unsafe & have no safe frameworks to guide them. Lateral violence is not just an individual’s behaviour. It often occur’s when a number of people work together to attack or undermine another individual or group. Lateral violence includes: *gossiping *personal put downs *jealousy *social exclusion or shunning *family feuding *organisational conflict *physical violence *gaslighting behaviours Imagine if people practiced LATERAL KINDNESS instead of lateral violence... Imagine how powerful a unified voice, and people could be.

💡 Boost your knowledge of what stigma and discrimination at work can look like - and how to take action ⬇

Many “older” folks remember the Los Angeles based rock band “Rage Against the Machine” … key word here, RAGE. Femicide is on the rise. Reports of uncontrolled anger and abuse are also seemingly on the rise. Co-currently we are dealing with a multitude of changes. This includes artificial intelligence and fear of job losses, economic downturns, daily hassles (like traffic, being a caretaker), high temperatures due to environmental changes. As a matter of fact, evidence points to higher temperatures 🌡️ correlating with increases of crime, domestic violence, even murder. Indeed, it seems we have a lot to be angry 😤 about. This dangerous “cocktail” often combined (with testosterone — the biopsychosocial model explanation) leads to higher instances of crime, road rage, and often ill health. On the flip side, “managed anger” can lead to positive individual and societal change. Managing Oneself as Peter Drucker, a famous management guru would say is on the same line with Socratic and stoic philosophy of “knowing thyself.” Many leaders and nonprofits continue to help guide and coach individuals and communities. Thus, anger management needs to be added to all health education curricula, and health literacy trainings. Avoiding abuse, understanding how both physical strength, economic power, and status are advantages must continuously be addressed. One of the most useful models in understanding how “Power” works in relationships are the original Duluth Model, (Michigan) wheels 🛞. Suprised an opportunity (A bill) to help manage a wrong addiction is seen as a witch-hunt. It's been one of the fastest growing addictions over the years and in Generations now since there's no proper framework in the correction system to curb or eradicate this over there. Individuals in communities involved in such can be managed through the cultural system here and not just the legal since its seen as foreign and mostly foreigners who arm such people. There, people came out and stood firm to defend this. Why don't they do it here? Backlash? Death? Shame? Stigma? If yes, why can't they stand firm for their ideals? Too un-Ghanaian? Such desires can be overcomed or often short lived? No clear cut path there in containing this but yes, religious leaders and counsellors must wake up and stop condoning as being empathetic, personal choice or some positive diversity agenda worthy of pursuit. During #LonelinessAwarenessWeek we're calling for a new perspective on #loneliness. The groups in society already the most marginalised, excluded and discriminated against - are also more likely to experience loneliness. Our Loneliness Inequalities Evidence Review clearly shows the root causes of loneliness are not the fault of individuals - and limited public resources could be better spent if loneliness is understood and addressed through the lens of inequalities. The report shows that interpersonal exclusion, such as stigma or bullying, and difference from dominant society can directly and indirectly lead to loneliness and it also identifies six structural factors that can influence loneliness inequalities. We are actively exploring ways to put this evidence into practice to improve outcomes in Wales. We are particularly interested in learning how local authorities are addressing the issue of loneliness. Today, at the doctor with my teen felt different‼️ About one in three (34%) Black women who used health care in the past three years report that a negative experience with a health care provider resulted in worse health (13%), them being less likely to seek care (19%), and/or them switching providers (27%). So teaching her how to advocate for herself with healthcare providers is a privilege I don’t take lightly. It's important to empower our loved ones to speak up and ask questions about their health, both physical and mental. Encouraging open communication and self-advocacy skills from a young age can make a world of difference in healthcare. Over the past week, various towns across the UK have been experiencing riots and unrest following the tragic Southport attack. We express our deepest condolences to the families of those affected by the attacks and mourn the innocent lives that were taken. Race Equality Matters and Green Park stand firmly against all forms of racism and is committed to fostering a society where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. In light of recent events, it is crucial for our community to unite against racist hatred and ensure the safety of all ethnically diverse individuals. We unequivocally condemn the violent and hateful actions of these rioters. We urge everyone to come together to support those who may feel unsafe during these troubling times and to work towards a more inclusive and equitable society. Here are some ways you can ensure safety and support for ethnically diverse colleagues 1. Offer Flexible Work Arrangements: Provide the option for colleagues to work from home if they feel safer doing so. Allowing flexible working hours will also allow individuals to accommodate their personal needs and safety. 2. Create Safe Spaces: Offer a safe space for colleagues to express their feelings and concerns and accommodate any requests for flexibility to help ensure their safety and well-being. 3. Signpost Mental Health Support: Draw attention to mental health services and provisions in your company as well as external services so people are aware of ways they can get help. 4. Report Incidents: Take a tough stance against any racial hatred experienced inside the workplace or outside. The Islamophobia Response Unit and Tell Mama are platforms to report Islamophobia. 5. Check-In Regularly: Show your compassion and check in with your colleagues. Let them know you are there to support them even if they don’t feel ready to talk. Sometimes, just knowing someone cares can make a significant difference. We hope for the safety of ethnically diverse individuals across the country and call for an end to the violence perpetrated by these hate groups.
