There really isn't anything else like this... the feeling you get deep in your heart that you just can't explain? The one that makes you feel so good, so joyful, so happy? It's all because it's a time and place filled with humans who accept and love you for exactly who you are without bias or prejudice. #SpecialOlympics #Joyfulness #LoveEveryone #SpreadJoy
“There’s nowhere in the world that I’ve experienced anything like it.” Almost a decade ago, Irish actor Colin Farrell led athletes into Los Angeles Coliseum for the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games Opening Ceremony. This powerful experience revealed to him the remarkable strength of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and the true meaning of acceptance. In 2003, Colin became the father of a son with an IDD. James, who will turn 21 next month, was born with Angelman Syndrome, a rare condition that can lead to developmental delays, speech and balance issues and, in some cases, seizures. Just like the #SpecialOlympics athletes Colin met in 2015, James’s achievements and milestones are hard-earned and celebrated with great joy.
